2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI pledge to vote for the person the Democratic Party nominates for President of the United States.
I'm not done yet though...
I also reserve the right to support who I support until the nomination is decided, in whichever way I choose to support that person. If you think my talking smack about your candidate, whomever that may be is bashing? Hang it in your ear, and grow some skin.
So until such time as the nomination is decided; YOU FUCKING GO BERNIE. You're coming close to changing a decision I made some time ago... to never donate to a politician or party again.

But I will support the nominee.

(1,573 posts)...and I may yet, but I am thoroughly pissed off. I am a long-time Dem committee person (officer and all, and state committee member at one point) and DWS' high-handed, authoritarian manners these days regarding the debates are really infuriating. I tell every single person who calls from the DNC looking for money (and this is EVERY DAY) that I will not give a single dime to the national party as long as there has been no debate. The Republicans are getting all the airtime and our party is being sidelined. We have more than one candidate, and they all have a right to be heard. This is bullshit.

(1,573 posts)...I take it from your posts that you are in the upper echelons of the party. You all take us grunts for granted. We work, and work, and work, and when we're not listened to, we get angry. And then we're told, "But if you don't fall back into place, you'll end up with Republicans!"
Well, guess what? At some point we're going to rebel. And I think this is the time to do it. It's the only chance I'm going to have in my lifetime to make a stand, and hopefully make a difference. And maybe you powers that be will actually pay attention to us grunts for a change.
So the next time you have dinner with whomever, spread the word.

(16,254 posts)It is too early to be doing all this candidate bashing, so why don't we let the best man/woman win and then take out your energy on the opponent of the Republican side? A lot of enemies among DU members seem to be growing and that shouldn't be the way it's done. Work for your candidate, but accept whichever one the Democratic party chooses. This country will be done if the Republicans ever take control again.
Pretty please?

(11,303 posts)Make that pledge...the Republicans have a scarey group. Senate,House and Presidency? It will
be worse than the Bush years. No regulations on any corps, women's rights down the drain and war, war, war.

(58,785 posts)when the president we elect in 2016 will mostly likely leave office, these four justices would, of course, range in age from approximately 86 to 91 years old.
Let's not forget that Scalia's retirement would enable a conservative president to appoint another hard conservative to serve for the following half century. A way of subverting the will of an increasingly majority population that neither believes in or is served by reactionary Christian white male supremacy.

That's great that you support Bernie.
I'm trying to look not only at what they say, but also what they can or will accomplish.
I'm giving a serious look at O'Malley. And Hillary. And Bernie.
I'm a democratic socialist. I'm not a sellout or corporate lackey for saying that I'm currently undecided but I'll give them all a fair shake.

Also fwiw, I fully expect to be voting for Hillary myself.

You will of course defend these staunch party members, won't you?
Won't you?
No? Why not?
Oh, you disagree with them about stuff? Imagine that.

But it smells like a Republican to me.

You know two of the candidates on the slate right now were Republicans, Republican officials, Reagan administration and big money old GOP power family stuff. Somehow they are considered Democrats. Chafee never caucused with the Democrats, Bernie never caucused with anyone else and is a co-founder of our largest Congressional caucus.
The Democratic Party says Bernie is a Democratic candidate for the nomination to be the Democratic nominee.
But you reject what the Party says, and wish to apply the Davis Standard. It's your choice.

(5,213 posts)No one should be forced to take a loyalty oath, they should instead be free to vote for the person that best represents them.
If Sanders wins the Democratic nomination and his views aren't your cup of tea, you should vote for whomever you choose. However, if you don't think his views are representative enough of the Democratic party, I think you're in the wrong party.
MohRokTah

(5,213 posts)Personally, I find that voting for a label, as you are describing--"I'll vote for Sanders if he has a D after his name, but not an I after his name, even though his policy views are identical either way--incomprehensible. It is just as silly as those people who say "I've always voted Republican, Ima gonna vote Republican" again, even though on individual issues they align more closely with Democratic positions.
I could be wrong, but I suspect even with the D after his name you won't vote for Sanders, and your actual issues is not with his party affiliation but rather his traditional Democratic positions. That's OK, no one should vote for someone that doesn't represent their beliefs.

(3,626 posts)and that's just a plainly idiotic and stupid position.
I don't care that Bernie isn't a Democrat when the competition is batshit crazy and would be horrible for this country.
