O'Malley Camp Takes Aim at Republican House Leadership

In a statement sent to the Pilot-Tribune editor in response to coverage of Iowa Congressman Steve King, the campaign of presidential candidate Martin O'Malley took aim at the outspoken conservative.

"Today, infamously anti-immigrant Congressman Steve King stooped to a new low in attacking the Pope and calling for a more compassionate approach to immigration and the treatment of refugees," O'Malley Iowa State Director Jake Oeth said.

"Leadership is about staking out positions that live up to our values as a people and serve the best interests of our country. While bullies like Steve King and Donald Trump demonize immigrants, and reject the principles on which our great country was founded, Governor O'Malley has called on the United States to heed Pope Francis' challenge to provide moral leadership."

On issues like climate change, immigration reform, fighting poverty and housing refugee families fleeing Syria, "all Steve King has offered is offensive rhetoric and racism straight out of the Trump playbook," the O'Malley camp said.

"As Democrats, we cannot continue to cede the conversation to Republicans like Donald Trump and Steve King. We must stand up and give voice to the kind, compassionate, generous people that we are."

He's pretty good on the issues and has a record to run on, despite some blemishes. I wasn't too fond of his policing strategies in Baltimore, for example.

Is Sanders sucking all the progressive air out of the room?

Is it the hovering specter of Biden?

I don't see much of him on the networks. Plenty o' Trump, though.

Does he have any money?

victim of 'air' being provided to the 'big' names as msm has a a limited attention span, and NO DEBATES yet. We look forward to things changing after first debate.

Thanks for asking, as he's more than 'pretty good' on the issues, has PLANS to go with progressive policies, and he has a great record to run on.

Martin O'Malley:

1. Ended death penalty in Maryland
2. Prevented fracking in Maryland and put regulations in the way to prevent next GOP Gov Hogan fom easily allowing fracking.
3. Provided health insurance for 380,000
4. Reduced infant mortality to an all time low.
5. Provided meals to thousands of hungry children and moved toward a goal for eradicating childhood hunger.
6. Enacted a $10.10 living wage and a $11. minimum wage for State workers.
7. Supporter the Dream Act
8. Cut income taxes for 86% of Marylanders (raised taxes on the rich).
9. Reformed Maryland’s tax code to make it more progressive.
10. Enacted some of the nation’s most comprehensive reforms to protect homeowners from foreclosure.
