Congressman John Lewis has endorsed Clinton

Last edited Wed Oct 7, 2015, 04:38 PM - Edit history (1)

I just got off the phone with his office. They are aware of this lie and are stating to everyone: Congressman John Lewis has not endorsed anyone

No one. Got that?

On edit Third call I spoke with Casey, who had earlier told me no, and she apologized for the information. She said he just released an official statement endorsing Clinton. That not everyone on his staff his was aware.

I have no issue with this and I have no problem correcting my post. I do take issue with being called a liar. I was told, emphatically and in no uncertain terms, "you can quote me, we are aware of the story and it is not true."

We need her leadership, not just here in America, but all over the world. She is tireless in her advocacy for those who have been left out and left behind. She is ready to be President on day one. Hillary Clinton has my wholehearted endorsement, and I plan to work and campaign for her to see that she is elected the next President of the United States."

Former UN Ambassador Andrew Young also endorses Hillary Clinton. These are both lifelong activists of stature and integrity, so their endorsements say something important.

regards your assumption that the person answering calls for a particular senator or congress person is always up to date where their representative or senator is on an issue, and at least in my experience that is not always the case. I suspect that is the situation here. The information has not trickled down to the person answering the phone yet.

But after taking a deep breath my fervent desire is all this unpleasantness goes away.

John Lewis endorsing Hillary and his office being unaware of it aren't mutually exclusive propositions but it put me in a very bad light, nonetheless...

You used the word lie when you disputed the story. You called out some folks defending your misinformation.

You should delete this Op because it's bullshit.

I think people are far too quick to use the word liar, especially given how high emotions have been running. Where something is breaking news (if an endorsement can be considered breaking by itself) it takes a while to get all the correct information to everybody.

As our former Secretary of State, Senator from New York, and first Lady of the United States, Hillary Clinton is the most qualified person to be President of the United States," said Congressman Lewis in a statement released Wednesday by the campaign.

"I know her heart.

Do you doubt his sincerity here?

Gotta say, I wasn't too crazy about the spirit in which this post was delivered.

"They are aware of this lie"

"Got that?"

Seems like a failed gotcha moment to me. That you're taking offense at this point is a bit much.

Again, I'm glad you corrected. Perhaps you should have left it at that.

I could delete but that's dishonest. I posted exactly what I was told, more than once, by his office.

I apologized to DSB, but evidently, that's not enough either

I'm not a coward. I'm not lying. I'm pretty unhappy with John Lewis' office staff but I believe, at least the first person I spoke with, had no idea that an official endorsement was coming,

If there's no penalty, it might be best to delete the thread. If there is, you could simply change the title. Sorry some have launched into reflexive attack mode, but that's who they are.

This could happen to anyone.

I didn't delete because I didn't think it was right

I posted what his office said. They were either wrong because they didn't know (which I believe the first person genuinely didn't know) or weren't allowed to say before the official announcement.

It's not surprising that this was confusing to Lewis' office considering he endorsed her months ago.

The new bombshell press release probably took them by surprise too.

I applaud you for sticking to an effort to find out. I remember the shit I got in 2008 when I broke the news that Biden was Obama's pick for VP. Back then, I couldn't reveal my source without getting some people in trouble, so I refused to say how I knew, and MAN did I catch shit on DU. "How do YOU know? LINK???? Why would YOU know before the press had it? What makes YOU so special? Yeah, you wish! etc etc etc etc etc." And here I thought the people on DU would have been happy to know in advance of the announcement. Hah!!

Exactly ONE poster apologized after the announcement came, so you're well ahead of the game!

Then you shouldn't go around calling people telling the truth liars. Talking to a staffer and then going off on a tangent isn't what I would call thorough. People in the other op were telling you the truth and provided multiple links to back it up. You called it a lie because of what someone told you. It's clear who had the information correct.
