A curious view from a conservative commentator - "A conservative case against Mitt Romney"

I thought you may be interested in reading this newspaper commentary. (My eyebrows are raised!)

"The time for conservatives to compromise has come and gone. The time for decisive and prudential judgments in our votes has arrived, and that means abandoning Mitt Romney this election.

One of the great mistakes conservatives make when voting today is misjudging and mischaracterizing our political opponents. Words such as "socialist, radical, and communist" are tossed around with little regard to their historical meaning or modern implications. Then, we portray every election as a "turning point" in history, making over-exaggerated claims about the consequences of a political loss. Few actually argue that Mr. Romney stands by himself as a solid candidate for the presidency, but we are told we must get rid of the main problem, President Obama, even if it means settling for the lesser of two evils. This logic appears solid, but for the fact that it is based on two fundamentally flawed premises. One being: Mr. Obama is the problem. Two being: Mr. Romney is the solution.

Mr. Romney is anything but the ideal candidate. He is not running a campaign based on his plans or record but on why Mr. Obama has failed. We all know President Obama has failed. I want to know how Mr. Romney plans to fix America".

Christiandom College! A Catholic liberal arts university.

What we have here is yet another fucking conservative theocrat.

One of the main reasons the Republicans have gone off the rails is because of this idiotic Christian country bullshit. We see it all over the place in conservative politics. They are steeped in it and they are not going to let it go easily.

We need a cultural change and that doesn't come easily, or quickly. It took three decades for them to do this. If we are going to defeat this evil, it will take more than an election or two. We have to change a culture which for thirty fucking years has been telling people that government is the problem while simultaneously planning to turn government against the little people.

It is with this culture which we have to do battle. The only hope I see is truth. It is something we all must uphold above everything else.

I am very worried, but not about November. Obama wins. We need to take back the House and keep the Senate. The former will be tough, the latter is probably okay.

Damnit! Let's get on the hump. We've got some flyin' to do!

I think Democrats think the red states are a lost cause but they are not. We need to start feeding them the correct information.

President Barack Obama has not failed, the 112 th congress failed,When we the 99% elected the first African american President a portion of this country was not ready,so that portion made it its only priority to do as much damage as it could to show its disdain for that man ,who's only fault to this point was serving this nation in its highest position that is the fact that has amazing to me, never shared the same sentence when the failure point is brought into the conversation, so I guess this conservative thought his or her post was some type of admission that the Re-thugs are on the wrong track DUH! but if this person wants to share honestly about their party's choice being ideologically wrong. And speak of failure dont stop at the President he is only one man there are hundreds of house members and senate members who deserve equal Failed statues even when conservatives try to go against the grain they cant seem to do it 100% Sad.

My thoughts are that the reality of this whole debate, that we as a nation are not ready to speak with one voice ,we are not ready to embrace one for all and all for one ,we insist on picking sides and branding ourselves and that only serves to divide us and distort the truth and my truth is we cant fix something by breaking something else there is a great Davide in this country and the one thing the 1% knows and uses is the fact, the age old Attic of Davide and conquer and they have it down pat ! this campaign is not about Mitt Romney its about status quo, no change, Presidents are white men,and they will watch this nation burn before they allow a black man to succeed, because then it might become status quo.

whom might be on the fence about voting for Romney-Hood in November. It's a trashy, poorly thought out, and illogical editorial from where I'm sitting but if it causes even one person to re-think dragging themselves to the polling booth in November, then it could be useful for us.

13. The problem with this article is its premise: "We all know President Obama has failed."

When the premise is flawed, the rest of the argument falls to shit.
