Hillary Clinton Interrupted By Immigration Protester Over Private Prison Donations

Hillary Clinton was interrupted by an immigration protester while presenting an award to chef Jose Andres at the annual Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute gala in Washington, D.C. on Thursday.
Holding up a sign that read “Hillary for immigrants in prisons,” Juan Carlos Ramos of the advocacy organization United We Dream Action stood near the stage, yelling at Clinton as she spoke over him. Ramos was protesting Clinton accepting donations from corporations that run private prisons.
Ramos told BuzzFeed News he was chanting “Hillary we’re watching. My deportation will be your funding.”
“Our message to Hillary Clinton is simple: Immigrant youth do not trust you,” Ramos, who was swiftly removed from the event, said in an earlier statement. “It is time to drop the prison money and stand with our community — you can’t have it both ways.”

Accepting money from the private prison industry is insanely unethical, especially when she is trying to portray herself as pro-immigration & racial justice.

Most recently she is against it. This is how she works. She thinks switching positions will give her a "high ground" when questioned. Some people here agree with her tactics.

She will fail the American people and their families. I have zero trust in her rhetoric. Actions speak louder than words. If she were a real candidate, and really believed in what she said she would not accept these donations and have them returned.

But yes, I totally agree with you, MANY people here fall for her MANY facades.

I know I've read right here in these pages that when a politician is interrupted on stage, the politician's job is to stop talking and listen to whatever the interrupter has to say. At the same time, I'm pretty sure we're not going to discover anything about Juan Carlos Ramos's dumbass Sarah Palin phase, since I'm pretty sure he never had one.

I remember Obama making space for someone to say their peace, and responding as a human being would. I think it is the better road for one who wishes to lead to show deference to dissenting voices. Fault lines tend to form around that which is ignored and suppressed.

She attacked Obama from the right on immigration in 2007-08. She made horrible comments about illegal immigrants in her Senate re-election. She wanted to send child refugees back to Latin America without due process in 2014 even the ones who were fleeing from the horrible Honduras government that she propped up as SoS. She gets money from private prisons. Her immigration plan is all just vague talking points. She doesn't address many of the real issues involved - Operation Streamline, for-profit prisons, etc.

Awards ceremonies are hardly any more important than this

Overcrowded, unsanitary conditions seen at immigrant detention centers

Facing growing controversy over reports of crowded and unsanitary conditions, Border Patrol officials on Wednesday provided the first limited public access to the two facilities, allowing reporters on brief, controlled tours for glimpses of children and a few mothers detained there at the end of their often long journeys from places as far away as Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador.

In Arizona, most were corralled behind chain-link fences topped with razor wire, huddling for warmth on plastic mats under flimsy metallic Mylar blankets. A television was suspended from the ceiling. Banks of portable toilets served as sanitary facilities. Beside a recreation area, a camouflage tarp had been strung up to shield temporary showers.

In Brownsville, the group included young mothers, many of whom looked exhausted. Some of the children looked dazed or stared blankly from the cells, while others waved and smiled. Many slept.

Who were most likely in the audience, should not have to have his moment ruined because a disruptor choose to do this at this particular time.

The ills of society will plague humankind until the end of time.

The disruptive actions of the activist had far more an impact on the Andreas family than it did in furthering his cause.

If an AA or Hispanic voter stays at home because of this, I honestly cannot blame them. P4P is modern day slavery.

HRC, and our party, really screwed up by letting this P4P cancer into the party. No one's fault but our own.

They better diffuse this NOW as opposed to later. Learn from the email mess, don't let this linger!
