2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI think Ryan wasn't a crazy pick for Romney
I'm not saying he's a good pick! But that segues into my first point, which is that there aren't any good picks. Just like the GOP didn't actually have any good picks for president either
Secondly, the Romney campaign is with out any doubt aware that the Dems can't quite figure out how to directly attack Ryan's budget. Because it's so bad, their focus groups refused to believe it's real
So, I'm thinking it's not nuts for the GOP to say "well, why not pick the author of the budget that our hardcore base loves (because it's all about cruel austerity for poor people and tax cuts for rich people), and that the Dems aren't sure how to attack"

(6,537 posts)Now Romney/Ryan will have to spend the whole campaign denying what the budget clearly states.

(6,537 posts)I think the Obama campaign will hammer the message again and again. They will have to say, again and again, whether they agree or disown what the Ryan budget clearly states. On TV interviews, in town halls, in debates. There's no way they can get by with mentioning Medicare/Social Security just in the debates.
