2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe Presidential election is now President Obama vs Paul Ryan. What I hear (CBS radio, NPR),
have read the last few days (USA Today, WSJ, Wash. Post, NYT, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, local paper), and scan on TV (cable "news" have Ryan and his policies as their election coverage. Romney (except for some coverage of his taxes) is out of the picture.

(15,472 posts)like NoHeart Dick , hide him using subliminal signals and lights until after the election.
Romney seems to be hiding out in "Mittness protection" till the convention. I think he wants to avoid anything the might make him look worse than he already does before he get the "official" nomination. I think he had to pick Ryan in order to make sure he was not "removed" at the convention. The Koch brothers wanted Ryan, Romney want the Koch's money, and picking Ryan worked for both of them, and it helped keep the tea party knuckle draggers happy and pretty much sealed the deal that he would be the "official" nominee.
Of course the real problems for him will come "after" the convention when he "is" the official nominee. I think we have only seen the tip of the iceberg from the Obama camp, and after Labor day the gloves will come off and thing will get a lot tougher for Romney and Ryan.

(25,415 posts)He uploaded a point of view by selecting Ryan. I really think he cares about little except some vague concept of having more power and giving his cronies and buddies more money through lowering their taxes. I think he was told to select Ryan to get the ultra right wing of the party on board and he was offered campaign money.
The choice of Ryan just solidified Romney's positions to the farthest right; anyone who still thinks he's a "moderate" is an idiot (idiots...Repugs...same difference!)

(9,854 posts)I live deep in GOP country. There is no love here for Ryan. I am getting zero blowback on my FB page and I have been wearing Ryan out for a week. I had ONE half-hearted "Well, Paul Ryan is better than Joe Biden. Look at all the gaffes Biden had just this week." I responded with, "I would rather have an honest gaffe than the out and out lies that Ryan has been telling all week about Medicare."
**crickets**
People might be biding their time or whatever, but I am just not getting the enthusiasm for this ticket like there was for McCain/Palin.

(22,308 posts)Nothing about Rmoney except for his missing taxes and almost nothing about Ryand except his attacks on Medicare.
Chuckie (The Doll) Todd said today on MTP that it has been 28 (?) days since Rmoney was able to speak out about jobs and the economy (Paraphrasing and guessing at the 28 number). It was before he left on his trip to Europe when he screwed up in Great Britain and Israel.
Now it is all about Ryand and his budget. These guys are way off message.
No wonder their poll numbers suck so badly that the MSM has to prop them up.

(13,594 posts)Palin was never taken seriously by the press. She was just a media-ready bimbo who could be relied on to spout inflammatory rhetoric that gave the base erections and their newscasts the desired freak factor to pull viewers for their advertisers.
In this case, they're promoting Ryan as some "big thinker" who has "bold plans." In other words, the MSM is heavily promoting Ryan as a serious candidate and, as observed by the OP, the person to focus on. The media obviously backs the GOP and now, since Romney has been roundly panned as a joke, they're using Ryan as Romney's substitute for ... everything. Even Romney himself is letting Ryan be the point man in the race.

(19,458 posts)Love Joe Biden a lot.. but I don't fool myself that he is the President. Ever. Anyone who votes for Romney because they get Ryan, is an idiot.
And those that are pushing to have Ryan flip the ticket, are admitting that all they care about is winning. Ryan is not qualified to be President. He's tea bagger.

(9,854 posts)Romney doesn't have a lot of personality and there just isn't a whole lot there to get excited about. Ryan, on the other hand, is earnest, young, physically relatively attractive and has a fire breathing quality that Mittens lacks. It isn't a GOOD thing, however, to be upstaged by your VP pick. And Romney impresses me as the kind of guy who wants everybody to LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!!!! I am thinking that if the Paul Ryan love fest goes on for too long, Mitt might just get a little testy.

(19,458 posts)that they're candidate was that weak. It would kind of freak me out, if I was a voter and I suddenly realized that.
