2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIt's a great month to be a Hillary supporter!
She won the first debate, She made the GOP look like the fools that they are during the Benghazi hearing, the polls, oh the polls, did I mention the polls? Great Scott! Go Hillary!
You've got the stamina and the endurance to see this through. I am so proud of you.
You will do our country proud once again.
EDIT: I forgot to mention the endorsements! They keep coming in.

(213 posts)Miss it so much! But "Madame Secretary" is turning out to be a really good show -- with more good family stuff. AND Hillary said last night on Colbert that she watched it and liked it.
So as I say this: future Madame President likes "Madame Secretary", I will go outside, turn around three times and spit (and curse, just to be safe.)

(37 posts)Is the thought that during the general she's going to tack back to the right. And if she should win, her move to the right will be startling. Not Bush right, but more like Cheney. Wait and see.
HassleCat
(6,409 posts)Right now, most of us are saying, "I support someone else, but I will vote for her if she is the nominee." With every shift to the right, however, she loses a few of those voters. She will calculate the losses vs. the gains. "By shifting right on this issue, do I pick up more voters than I lose?" The historical pattern has been to run left to energize the base, then sprint way to the right to attract conservative Democrats and conservative independents. Problem is, it only works sometimes, and only for the presidency. We have been gradually losing Congress since 1980, and we're weak at the state an county levels as well. There's a price to be paid for running a back-and-forth campaign, an we have been paying that price. The Clinton campaign juggernaut is likely to ignore such subtleties. We get a hint of that right now, with Clinton doing a little of the negative thing against Sanders, when she could just smile and ride it out. This suggests her campaign machine is geared up and ready to launch an offensive against anything and anyone, ready to parse, ready to split hairs, ready to "clarify" positions to conform to focus group results. This is the kind of stuff that annoys Sanders supporters, but perhaps we're expendable. It's assumed most of us will vote for any candidate with a (D) after his or her name. Some of will not, but mot of us will. Or will we? It depends, I guess.
turbinetree
(24,701 posts)he talked about this very issue, if she gets or becomes the nominee, her going to the White House is going to be determined by the "ten of thousands" that have and continued the support for Sanders.
In my opinion, she cannot win the White House without that, or the Sanders base-----------------that is a fact, if she is not looking at those 32% or 32 voters currently out of 100 that do not support her, and support Sanders, she will have problems-----------------that is a fact, and those numbers can and will change.
Because, basically in my humble opinion, and what I saw and heard, Bernie Sanders saved her when he said enough of the emails during the debate, let's move on, and if anyone doesn't think so, then I cannot change that fact, the MSM wanted it for the ratings gambit to get more revenue from the commercials which I find disgusting in itself, and the farce going on the Hill wanted it in the debate, to have that sound bite for a election tactic ----------------------it was, and always has been about issues with Sanders and not some PAC dictating the outcome
Honk---------------------for a political revolution Bernie 2016
Walk away
(9,494 posts)Instead of letting him rant about her being loaded with baggage instead of issues she stole the moment. It was perfection and beautifully subtle.
Bernie will give her the nomination alright, but not because he planned it.
turbinetree
(24,701 posts)the next debate he might not step in to say enough is enough
Because it will be with Maddow and she gets very specific
Clinton still has to worry about the 34% or 34 out of 100 voters, she needs the Sanders supporter if and this is a big if, if she is the nominee.
The so called invisible primary going on behind the scenes with these delegates right now speaks volumes of what is wrong.
I have not been able to cast my ballot in a primary, and someone is already making my decision for me and others, before the general election, why am I and others being cut from this process and just skip over the parliamentary procedure.
These debates aren't debates, my high school debate class was a debate, between the fore's and between the against, that's a debate-------------------Democrat against a Republican,------------- Democrat, Green Party , Republican ,whoever on the same "stage"
That is what is not being discussed.
Honk-------------------for a political revolution Bernie 2016

(6,409 posts)And you know what? They're right. (1) By declaring Clinton the winner, they make it so. Remember, most people only saw or heard the media account of the debate, not the debate itself. By winning in the media re-telling of the debate, Clinton wins the debate itself. (2) Sanders showed weakness. By failing to attack Clinton on the email thing, Sanders showed he lacks the killer instinct necessary to be president, and handed the nomination to Clinton on a paper plate. The media said so, and the public believes Sanders "is not a fighter" or some such nonsense. (3) They media already decided, well before the debate, that she would win. Going in, they set expectations so low she could have set herself on fire and they would have told us it was a "brilliant display of political showmanship" or some such.
All this is unfair, undemocratic, irresponsible activity by the media, etc, etc. But it becomes reality. Mass media have transcended the old "medium is the message" axiom and are now involved in something right out of Citizen Kane. They decide what is real and feed us the information that supports their conclusion. So Clinton wins the debate.
turbinetree
(24,701 posts)I watched the first debate, and I believe that Sanders saved her, and by that, I mean he was telling a moderator that works for a oligarchy making money off the political process with commercials, that this campaign was about Issues enough is enough on these emails.
That question was the making for a sound bite on the farce going on in capital, and for for lobbyists that go on a show to make a buck and tell the masses what they think, so that they can get more commercial dollars.
I humbly believe in my opinion that Sanders saved Clinton that night when he said enough of this email stuff, lets talk about Issues
And Thom Hartmann talked about this issue they MSM know better--------------they just don't care
I can't wait to watch when Maddow has Sanders, Clinton and O'Malley next week in South Carolina, I truly believe that it will be a different debate with the questions---------------we will see

Clinton Holds Massive Lead in Iowa
October 27, 2015By Taegan Goddard
A new Monmouth University Poll in Iowa finds Hillary Clinton with a huge lead over Bernie Sanders, 65% to 24%, with Martin OMalley at 5% and Lawrence Lessig at 4%.
Key findings: Clinton enjoys a large lead over Sanders among both male (55% to 33%) and female (73% to 16%) voters. She also has an edge across the ideological spectrum, leading among voters who are very liberal (57% to 34%), somewhat liberal (68% to 22%), and moderate (69% to 19%).

(32,886 posts)That's one of the things that is so amazing about her candidacy. She has taken everything they could throw at her.
This is why it's not appropriate to compare how she is doing against the GOP candidates versus how Sanders is doing. If Sanders appeared like he had a chance of winning, they would come up with a list of things to throw at him, with the most obvious being "Socialism" and it would hammer his numbers against the GOP candidates. That has already been done with Hillary and she is doing very well.

(24,544 posts)I have made it beyond clear that while I don't necessarily support Hillary for president, I am a big admirer of hers and think she would be great in the White House, and feel the same way about the other Dem candidates as well.
If you're a Hillary supporter, it would be impossible to see the steady stream of endorsements, ass kicking and good will she's gotten this week and not feel damn good. She is really doing well.
