2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI had planned to unskew all of the recent polls,
but then I discovered that they all use #4 Torx head fasteners and I only have a #2 Phillips skewdriver.
For now, I'll have to leave them all skewed tight. I lost my #4 Torx skewdriver somewhere.

(146,288 posts)On the other hand, a neighbor just bought an old 50s Velocette motorcycle (a dream of mine) and we were talking. He said, "None of my wrenches fit. WTF?"
"Just a minute," I told him. I went into the garage and got my box of Whitworth sockets and wrenches. "Here," I said, "Try these."
I used to have lots of old British stuff, and bought those tools so I could work on them. Haven't used them in years. I did ask him to keep them together and give them back when he found his own to buy. They're tough to find these days without going online.
I love weird stuff.

(1,253 posts)If HRC makes it there you will need it to get an unenthusiastic electorate to the polls. Good luck with that...

(1,253 posts)we have 2 kids, 6/10, live in L.A., CA. Of all of our friends, not a SINGLE one is enthusiastic about Hillary. NOT ONE. They all say they'll vote for her if they have to, but none of them like her ties to Wall Street and Third Way leanings. Most, not all, of them really like Sanders. The common thread is they all feel the system is rigged and that Mrs. Clinton is owned by those who did the rigging. These are teachers, tradesman, film industry folks. Middle Class to the core. I also go to school with a bunch of 20-30 somethings and not one of them cares a lick for Hillary either. If we fail to nominate Sanders we will blow an opportunity to bring millions of new voters into the process and make real gains in the house and senate. HRC might win the GE, but she will bring no one with her down ticket. The last thing we need is 4/8 more years of a Wall Street Whitehouse...

(45,851 posts)Much easier to blame inaction or action in the "wrong" direction on the other party when you don't have a veto proof majority. Take a look at what happened in the Senate in 2009, the Democrats were backed into a corner and were desperate to lose their veto proof majority, thank God for Lieberman bailing or they might have been forced to pass something liberal or progressive.

(27,814 posts)What you are offering is anecdotal evidence based on your friends' opinions. And I take you at your word as to what they have expressed.
However, it is just that - anecdotal - and it would be foolhardy to think that everyone everywhere holds the same opinion.
I have friends/family spread across the States. Some are staunch BS supporters; most are HRC supporters - which pretty much falls in line with the polls we've all seen.
"If we fail to nominate Sanders we will blow an opportunity to bring millions of new voters into the process ..."
I keep hearing this from BS supporters - but there is no evidence to support it. It is mere supposition at this point - and stories about "I know someone who has never voted before, but is going to vote because of Bernie" just don't cut it as evidence that "millions of new voters" would turn out to vote if Bernie was the nominee.
"HRC might win the GE, but she will bring no one with her down ticket."
Hillary has been a force within the Dem Party for decades. Bernie, on the other hand, is not even a member of the Party. So that's rather a ridiculous assertion.
For every "story" out there about Hillary being part of the rigged system, being too close to Wall Street, etc., there is a story about BS being behind-the-times, an opportunist, a stubborn old man whose head is stuck in the 'fifties, and so on. So offering up such stories is pointless.
The only thing we have to go by right now are the poll numbers, which clearly show that the majority of Democrats are supporting HRC over BS. And they are doing so by some very large margins.
In the end, few voters are moved by "some people are saying" memes. I doubt there is anyone out there who hasn't heard both positive and negative tales about both HRC and BS.
Look at DU and you'll see what I mean. Has any BS supporter seen a negative story about him and declared they've changed their preference based on that? Has any HRC supporter here abandoned her camp due to a negative story about her being posted here?
What I have observed is that BS supporters have focused far more on Hillary's "negatives" than on BS's "positives" - and that doesn't speak well for their candidate-of-choice. And as you have undoubtedly read right here on DU, that tack has been a turn-off for many people who might have been more open to hearing what BS has to say, were it not for the constant harping on HRC's "wrongdoings" - real and imagined.
In any event, I admire your determination to further your education, and wish you well in that pursuit.

(146,288 posts)Trey Gowdy. He's just plain screwed. There are no tools to fix that, although Hillary fixed his little wagon pretty well.

The polls may be skewed, but won't a screw driver help?
Not familiar with a Torx (?)
I got stuff to do, find something else to do tonight.
I have a bunch of Phillips screwdrivers, no Torx.
