New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio endorsed Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton for president on Friday.
"The candidate who I believe can fundamentally address income inequality effectively, the candidate who has the right vision and the right experience and the ability to get the job done, is Hillary Clinton," he said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe." "I've seen her vision and platform develop over five months. I'm extremely pleased with what she's put on the table."
De Blasio's endorsement of Clinton, the former secretary of state, was long-awaited. Though he's been openly supportive of her campaign, he had said that he wanted hear more of her vision before officially signing on. He was also waiting for her to speak out on President Barack Obama's controversial trade deal.
Democrats all over the country are looking to her for leadership," de Blasio said in June, according to The New York Times.
According to The Wall Street Journal, de Blasio wanted to make the announcement ahead of a candidates' forum he is holding in Iowa this December.

(47,803 posts)All these progressives I admire jumping on the Clinton Express. I find it depressing, buit not tossing anyone under any socialist mass transit vehicles.
All I can says is I sure as hell hope Clinton follows through on the Big Promises about her sincerity she is making to these people after the election. I hope they are not just buying Clinton Snake Oil, and that two or three years from now they won't be eating their words.

Exactly. That ain't true for Bernie - WE ALL KNOW HIM WELL. That's why the country - especially the millennials - is going for Bernie.

(67,782 posts)....because no one knows him. Now you say "we all know him well"?
But then again, this is a thread about NYC Mayor De Blasio endorsing Hillary Clinton.
By the way, the current Democratic Mayor of Sanders' hometown, Burlington Vermont, knows Sandes very well, and he endorsed Clinton too.

(4,558 posts)I have no doubt that she will be.. IF we give her the congress to back the policies up.
I do believe she'll make the most progress that can be made, but how much will depend on the congress that she's given to work with.

didn't endorse her.If that is true then they are brunch of cowards.
This isn't a game for much of country.so while they can live with Clinton further draging the party right those not part of top 1%
can't.

That being said, popularity does/does not equal standing for that which is right.

(1,811 posts)That is how far to the right the Dems have drifted. That is why it is so disappointing to see good progressives like DiBlasio and Brown caving to the conventional wisdom. It is truly sad. The choice will be Wall Street Neo-Lib versus totally batshit insane.Good for us, I'm so proud.

that's going to cost them a fortune in ratings! But maybe he can get republicans to write his name in during the general. Hillary won't mind!

(2,586 posts)The last time you guys got arrogant a Senator from Illinois ended up becoming the nominee. Be sure people like your candidate before stating that its going to be a clean sweep at the GE. Otherwise history is likely to repeat itself.

(30,058 posts)Joe tried to filibuster DeBlasio's reasons why Hillary would be a good president, she had advocated for the CDF, worked hard for health insurance and income inequality is one of the things she would work, she has vast foreign experience. He had the reasons and not the worn out RW talking points. Good for DeBlasio.

(164 posts)respect for Mayor DiBlasio, Sherrod Brown, and the rest of these "progressive" pro-Clinton politicians. They want to be on the winning side, not because it's best for the people of this country, but because it's best for their own ambitions. A neo-liberal pro-corporate imperialist against whatever crazy nutcase the Republicans nominate. In that case, as a resident of Maryland which will go to Democrat, I'll probably vote for Jill Stein. I know the Supreme Court is important (and it's always something like that), but I'm tired of having to choose between two politicians, none of whom have our best interests in mind.
