Sanders faces protests as he courts black voters

ATLANTA — Shouting over protesters, Bernie Sanders promised black Americans that if elected he would be their partner in the White House and follow in the footsteps of his predecessor, the country’s first black president.

The Democratic presidential front-runner vowed to run ‘‘a love and kindness platform’’ as he courted African-American voters in Atlanta. Yet he struggled at times to convey his plan to address racial equality after protesters from the Black Lives Matter movement interrupted his remarks. Fewer than 10 people sang and chanted for several minutes in front of the podium as Sanders tried to stick to outlining his proposals.

‘‘I’m sorry they didn’t listen, because some of what they demanded I am offering and intend to fight for as president,’’ he told a crowd of hundreds gathered at Clark Atlanta University after the protesters left the gymnasium.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS

Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: It is a viable point. It would have been different. BTW back in the day of MLK it was peaceful protest, usually a sit-down. There were other groups like Black Panthers who were loud and tried to take over.

of our candidates to do better on issues of racial justice. It trivializes these issues that are literally matters of life and death for our African American friends when we seem more concerned with using them to attack an opposing candidate than with actually addressing them. Supporters of both Bernie and Hillary are guilty of this.
