They know Bernie will shake things up. They know Hillary won't.

It's understood that anything Hillary says before the Democratic Primary is designed to mollify progressives and make Hillary more palatable.

Creating a phony gender difference keeps viewers from thinking about the issues.

it reflects more poorly on Hillary than it does Bernie...frankly, it looks like a desperate attempt to discredit him and that kind of criticism about Bernie is simply not credible

because it's a win-win. If she is the nominee and loses the election, then Republican becomes president. If she is the nominee and wins the election, the third way corporate Wall Street rule still is in place. If Bernie were to win the election, the party would be over. They don't want to face him.
