Supporters of the President Barack Obama’s controversial decision to require religious employers cover contraception in health plans aren’t ceding the election-year issue to its opponents.

The Planned Parenthood Action Fund launched a TV ad Wednesday in eight swing states, urging women to “thank President Obama” for ensuring their access to birth control without co-pays.

The 30-second spot is meant to bolster the president as he weathers criticism from Republican presidential candidates, Catholic leaders and even some Democrats. But it also adds a fresh fuel to a fight the White House hopes to tamp down.

“It’s important for women across the country to know about the new birth control coverage benefit,” Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund, said in a statement. “This new benefit means that millions of women, who would otherwise pay $15 to $50 a month, will have access to affordable birth control, helping them save hundreds of dollars each year.”

The ad is airing in the following media markets, according to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund: West Palm Beach, Fla.; Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Lansing, Mich.; Reno, Nev.; Albuquerque, N.M., Toledo, Ohio; Charlottesville, Va., and Madison, Wis.

2. Help me understand this, if you can, because Chris Matthews invited two

women on his show last night, both opposed to the president's mandate. The discussion was one-sided, but apart from that, their beef with the president is that, according to them, there is not a broader extemption for religious institutions.

They wondered why Obama was taking up this fight when he could lose the Catholic vote that he enjoyed in 2008.

Again, it was a one-sided discussion, but I still want to understand what the administration's rationale one and what could be a political liability.

3. I can only speak as a Catholic, most of us ignore Rome/the Church in matters like these. When the

"Pill" first came on the market, our obedience to Catholic nonsense came to an end, along with "rhythm", the Church's idea of birth control. The President is possibly gambling on that. Also, at least to me, separation of church matters and State matters should show the division.

4. Thanks, and I understand that, but in this case, there's no division or separation

between church and state if the government is enforcing this mandate on religious institutions.
