Paul Ryan: Im Practically From Ohio (Can He See It From His House?)
Paul Ryan is trying to convince natives hes practically from the Buckeye State.
Mr. Ryan boasts of carrying a lucky buckeye, a gift from Mr. Portman. In Powell, Ohio, a week ago he proclaimed, Its good to be back here in Big 10 country.
During his first visit to battleground Ohio as Mr. Romneys running mate a couple of weeks ago, Mr. Ryan held a rally on the campus of his alma mater in Oxford, lauding the state as the place I spent a lot of my formative years.
At Miami of Ohio (class of 1992) the seeds of his conservative political philosophy were nourished, and he gained his earliest political experience, poking in lawn signs for a Congressional candidate named John A. Boehner, who became speaker of the House and a close colleague of Mr. Ryans in the party leadership.
In a state with large numbers of blue-collar voters, Mr. Ryan has portrayed himself as empathetic to workers displaced by the loss of factory jobs and threatened by the global economy. It was in Ohio that he first accused Mr. Obama of breaking a promise to save a General Motors plant in Wisconsin where a lot of my high school buddies worked. The claim has been refuted because the plant closed before Mr. Obama took office.
