2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumGiven that Hillary has the older/retired vote, I would bet Bernie has the working-age/union vote.
Despite the meaningless endorsements by the union bosses, I think there is good reason to believe that Bernie actually has the majority of the rank-and-file union workers behind him.
How about the unions actually poll their members??? Hmm????

Your "logical deduction" sounds more like wishful thinking.

The unions have actually polled their members! They support Hillary.

(5,420 posts)they are NOT polling the bulk of the rank and file members. The endorsements are the union leaders only.
MaggieD
(7,393 posts)The press releases they've put out note many different methods of polling members.
I'm a black male who's with a union at United Parcel Service. Most of the white males there are Republicans. When they say a union has endorced a candidate. It's from the union leaders, not those union employees.

(6,604 posts)these polls you refer to?
Absent those, you're just pulling claims out of your butt.
Every endorsement comes with a press release that describes how the endorsement was decided.

(9,527 posts)they are saying their polling showed their members supported Clinton.

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees said in a statement it had gathered feedback from members over six months. Polling data showed a majority of members would support Clinton in the Democratic primary.

(32,342 posts)From there they move to wanting a survey of every single member of the union, which would take years, considering how hard it is to even get 1000 people in my local to answer an email about health benefits.
It's just sour grapes. They were perfectly fine with the same process used in the Nurses union endorsement of Sanders.

(67,782 posts).....representing more than 11 million members. Sanders has the support of a handful of unions representing less than 400,000 members.
That's a ratio of roughly 25-1.
Try researching the rationale behind the endorsements of those unions, they DID poll their members.
All those that I've read show that the majority of the rank-and-file of those unions participated in the decisions and virtually all members had an opportunity to participate. The endorsements for the most part were made by the rank-and-file members.

(7,143 posts)The "older/retired" vote suggests, appropriately, that these are two separate groups. So "older" but not "retired" would be "working-age", yes?
Aren't "union bosses" "working-age"?
Does Sanders have the "working-age" and "union" vote, as your title suggests, or just the "rank-and-file union" vote per the body of your post?
Finally... lolwut?

Excerpt of speech by AFSCME International President Lee Saunders to AFSCME Council 28, (State Employees of Washington State) on Friday October 2nd, 2015.
"Three candidates came and spoke to our board. Those three candidates were Martin O'Malley, ex-governor of Maryland. He's a good guy and a good governor. You can give him a round of applause (polite applause). Then it was Hillary Clinton, she came and spoke before our board (polite applause). And then it was Bernie Sanders came and spoke before our board (cheering, loud, sustained applause). Is that some kind of message? Is that some kind of message that I'm hearing?"
