http://www.huffingtonpost.com/h-a-goodman/hillary-clinton-will-fini_b_8717248.htmlHillary Clinton Will Finish Third In Iowa, Behind Bernie Sanders and O'Malley. Here's Why
The Iowa Caucus was once labeled as part of the Democratic Party's "extremes" by Hillary Clinton in a recently disclosed State Department email. However, there's nothing extreme about championing progressive values, even when they're not popular. Bernie Sanders has a history defending progressive principles, while Clinton has consistently veered to the right on war, foreign policy, trade, and even marijuana legislation.
There's also nothing extreme about opposing Keystone XL, but Clinton once supported the pipeline. NBC News writes "she helped lay the foundation for it as secretary of state." As quoted in The Nation, Clinton was once "inclined" to approve Keystone and even stated, "We're either going to be dependent on dirty oil from the Gulf or dirty oil from Canada."
Now, she opposes the pipeline that could damage water aquifers irrigating much of the central U.S., but before opposing it, she continually dodged questions.
Bernie Sanders always opposed Keystone XL.

I would suggest it's not "delusion "; but rather, deception or dishonesty.

(11,243 posts)I often google journalist if I read something and want to put it in context with their education and political leanings. And he has almost nothing at all online. Weird. No LinkedIn page, something most aspiring, freelance journalists update compulsively. Lists no date of college graduation. Almost nothing before the 2014 "I'm Voting for Rand Paul" article. Which is, by the way, concerning. This has probably been discussed already, but yeah, some sort of deception.

supporters potentially casting their votes for your candidate in the general if the opportunity to vote for Bernie doesn't exist for us at that time?
It just makes me more and more angry with you people and makes me further resent the campaign your candidate is running.

(14,274 posts)I've seen a ton of divisive posts here in GD... most of them are anti-Hillary and anti-Hillary supporters to the extreme. I think your anger and resentment are very displaced. Most of us are angry at the GOP and the dangerous rhetoric that they spout on a daily basis and the course that they would steer this country.
Threatening to not vote for Hillary in the general if she is the nominee is a very dangerous plan. Thankfully, I think most Democrats realize who the real enemies are.

(1,192 posts)she's not getting called out for bullshit comments on the debate stage. Two debates on national TV so far, and, in my opinion, she had two abysmal moments that should have been questioned by any normal, functioning journalism. Media should have hit hard the "cut it out!" comment and the "9/11 women" thing. But it just doesn't happen. The other day I thought if Jon Stewart was still doing daily show, he would have called them bullshit. And MSM would have picked up on it later on. There are no counterpoints to her bullshit at the moment. Not on TV.
And "The business model of Wall Street is fraud!"
They'll say anything for attention.

(4,280 posts)"The First Woman President" shouldn't be a reason for voting for Hillary. That's a cute "slogan", but voters want substance on issues and her past appears to be coming back to haunt her.

(32,324 posts)When I said that she laid the foundation for the Keystone XL Pipeline, I was told by several folks here that the filing for the permit by the Keystone people was routine, and that the State Department neither encourages or discourages such filings.
Of course, any thinking person would know otherwise.

(7,888 posts)discussion in the primary. It is with great joy that I observe the democratic process welcoming those under 40 to the table. The supporters of Senator Sanders have really shown me that there is reason for hope in changing the political process. I would not normally comment on an article offered without comment. I do so with the assumption that those of us busy in the fight to nominate Senator Sanders are time limited and using it where it counts.
Thanks to all you young sweet peas.

(11,175 posts)Even the author of the study relied on by the Journal said that the anti-Sanders article was distorting his conclusions. That didn't stop the Clinton supporters from jumping all over this typical right-wing attack on "big government" spending.
ETA: The Wall Street Journal article and the prediction that Clinton will finish third in Iowa are about equally ridiculous. Clinton finished third in 2008 because she didn't pay enough attention to the state. She's not making that mistake this year.
CoffeeCat
(24,411 posts)While I agree with his analysis of Hillary's neocon tendencies (I've quoted Kagan's praise of Hillary often on DU), her corporate ties, her pro-fracking behavior, her acceptance of for-profit prison dollars and her Wall Street connections--I disagree that she will come in third in Iowa.
She will place second. A distant second. O'Malley will barely register on the Iowa caucus Richter scale, and here is the reason--and the author's missed opportunity.
When you show up at your precinct to caucus--you gather with your neighbors to support your candidate. All participants divide into candidate camps. A FIRST count is taken. If any candidate does not meet a minimum threshold of support (determined by a percentage of total support) those supporters have two choices: Support another candidate; or sit out and not be counted.
If O'Malley continues to poll around 4-6 percent, it is likely that nearly all of this caucus supporters will face this situation at their caucus.
Many signs point to a weak Iowa caucus showing for O'Malley. He's got very limited funds. No television ads playing in Iowa and 1 office (Sanders and Clinton both have 20 Iowa offices).
It's possible that nearly all of O'Malley's supporters will end up being folded into other candidate camps. The question is--Where will they go? O'Malley supporters seem more in line with Sander's politics.
These O'Malley supporters could boost the camp that snags them--and that is significant because the latest polls have Bernie gaining ground in Iowa and behind Clinton in single digits.
