http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/newt-clintons-dnc-speech-could-be-seen-as"Newt Gingrich argued that former President Bill Clinton's well-received speech at the Democratic convention could be construed as a "condemnation" -- not an endorsement, as it was -- of President Obama.
"Think about it," Gingrich said on CNN's "State of the Union," summing up how he interpreted Clinton's message: "I had the longest period of economic growth in economic history; you didn't, Mr. Obama. I got to four balanced budgets by working with Republicans; you didn't, Mr. Obama."
"You can take his speech, spin it not very much, and it's actually a condemnation of the fact that Obama learned nothing ... out of the 2010 election."

add: I will add this. Newt gets so mad at Clinton for having him sit in the back of the plane that the next thing he does is shut down the government. Talk about a big republican baby

Proud Liberal Dem
(24,412 posts)weren't as bad back during the 1990's as what we have now, or at least there were still plenty "moderate" civic-minded Republicans left in the party back then that still believed in functioning government. Of course, Newt also tried to shut the government down immediately after the Republicans took Congress but Republicans paid a pretty significant price for their obstructionism and Clinton won re-election despite being one of the most hated persons in the world back then for all sorts of imaginary wrong-doing. Going after Clinton over Lewinsky blew up big in their faces too as they got reamed at the polls in 1998 and nearly lost control of Congress over the exposure of many of their own sexual peccadilloes. It's really surreal to hear Republicans today talk today like they *love* Bill and Hillary given that they despised and dished out so much slime and bile on them over the course of 8 years- not at all unlike they despise President Obama. There is no way whatsoever that Clinton's speech at this DNC could logically be interpreted as anything but a ringing endorsement of him. I want whatever Gingrich is having.
