Blame George Romney. Al Gore's parents were not any different, though he didn't always appreciate being raised that way. I don't think his heart is really in it, that is why Romney comes off as so detached.

He railed against two New York City candidates for city council.

He asked why two guys that were millionaires would spend so much money to get a job that paid only $30,000 a year.

His answer was that they planned on getting millions of dollars of benefits for their respective companies through votes on that council.
