Move On Endorses Bernie, with 79% of the Vote.

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has won the endorsement of MoveOn.org, a grassroots organization that has been at the forefront of liberal causes.

MoveOn says the Vermont senator was supported by nearly 79 percent of its membership in an online vote. Hillary Clinton received nearly 15 percent.

MoveOn endorsed President Barack Obama during the 2008 primaries and helped rally Democrats in opposition to the Iraq War. The group lists 8 million members and says it plans to mobilize nearly 75,000 of its members in Iowa and New Hampshire on Sanders' behalf.

I think it is good that they require a supermajority to endorse too. With a close 51-49 endorsement, the risk of a schism is great. However, with a supermajority, there is nothing ambiguous about how the org feels.

supporters.

Especially when speaking of Trayvon Martin's mom, I seriously don't believe that the anonymous garbage was from Democrats - supporting anyone. That said, I was very surprised at the comments that this was a very very significant endorsement - not that it is not a good one.

If you think back to past years, in any election, it is hard to label more than about 5 endorsements as likely to have moved votes. (For instances, in 2008 - I would name just Kerry, Ted Kennedy, and Oprah. The first two were important because they were an answer to is he ready enough. However, note that the three most important 2004 endorsements were likely Gore and Harkin for Dean ... and Kennedy for Kerry. I would argue that the combination of Gore and Harkin, who both served with Kerry in the Senate was likely stronger than Kennedy, which was a very strong, committed endorsement - but easily seen as supporting the favorite son of the state. )

REASON FOR ALERT

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS

Irony aside...Throw a "hissy fit"? Using sexist language (hysterectomy/hysterical) is over the top rude.

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Tue Jan 12, 2016, 09:48 AM, and the Jury voted 1-6 to LEAVE IT.

Explanation: Hissy fit is "sexist"? *sigh* My cat, who hisses at other cats (which is the context I first heard the term used), is sexist.

She will be devastated to learn this.

Abuse of alert.
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: This dishonest alerts about sexism are getting out of hand. I hope the administrators look at the alerter and see exactly what is going on here.

"Hysteria" certainly was used in a sexist manner once upon a time, but the context has faded. Hysterical, I would point out, also means "extremely funny", which is hardly sexist.

Kudos for the nice half..

As for the otehr half ..."a little hissy fit, or attack their web pages with epic insults and vile comments."

A) How endorsements are done matters. Move On polled their members...PP held meetings about their "values" snd the concerns of members, and then the leadership decided that they were going to endorse Clinton, not coincidentally a friend and political ally their director.

B)Some assholes write insulting nasty shit on web pages or Facebook pages. A few are from Bernie supporters. But many of those are from wingnuts...... And a great majority of of the "vile comments" I've seen on those comment pages from Sanders supporters are of the natuire of "I respect you, but I disagree with your choice of Clinton. I believe Bernie Sanders is a much better candidate and will do more to help advance the causes we believe in,"

Many supporters of Sanders are being pro-active -- but most are doing it civilly. And for the most part the majority of responses I see described as awful disgusting attacks from that horde of awful rude Sanders supporters are very polite and restrained.

And anytime one takes a stand, such as endorsing a candidate, one has to expect there will be reactions and responds, especially on social media. That's called public debate.

We are governed by people who have won seats with 50% of less than a 50% turnout. This means that 25% of the population can take control, which I think is rather evident in Congress these days. It also means that if only a few percentages of concerned minorities, women, or young voters show up they would take control.

In 1998 they started a movement to get Congress to "move on" past the impeachment of Bill Clinton. On the grounds that (1) his mistakes did not rise to the level of impeachment and (2) Congress had a lot better things to do than beat this sordid story to death.

So you could say it was a pro-Clinton organization right from the start.
