(20,226 posts)I remember once several years ago a British fellow I was working with in the Middle East was really impressed that I knew where the Canary Islands were located and commented that Americans rarely know geography. Just recently a physician I work with who happens to have been born in America but his family is from Libya was actually surprised that I knew Libya bordered Egypt on the West. I'm afraid there is some truth to the stereotype that Americans generally don't know geography very well.
