LCdr. Holly Harrison, Linda Greenlaw and (drum roll)...
...are both persons of substantial reputation on the high seas.
While serving as Aquidneck’s captain, Holly Harrison’s cutter and dedicated crew conducted innumerable maritime interdiction, search and rescue, escort and combat-related operations in the Northern Arabian Gulf. In 2003, Harrison received recognition of Aquidneck’s for these achievements under her command. She became the first female member of the service to receive the Bronze Star medal in addition to her record as the first woman to command a Coast Guard cutter in combat.

Linda Greenlaw is an author of books with maritime themes and the only female swordfishing boat captain on the East Coast of the United States. She was featured in the 1997 book The Perfect Storm and the 2000 film of the same name. Linda Greenlaw now captains the boat Hannah Boden on the Discovery Channel show Swords: Life on the Line. Sebastian Junger called Greenlaw not just the only female swordfishing captain, but "one of the best captains, period, on the entire East Coast."

Ms Greenlaw shares a birthday this coming Tuesday (New Year's Day) with another famous woman, Elizabeth Griscom. We of course know her better by the combination of her nick name and married surname, Betsy Ross. Although she was widowed twice after her first husband, John Ross died. Her role in the Revolution is tied to the name Ross.
