This school has a very high minority population, so she's probably discriminated against because of that, plus she's bipolar and there's quite a bit of discimination against the mentally ill as well.

And then she's female so she must have consented to two days of being dragged from place to place and being forced to have sex with groups of people and various objects. Maybe she read Fifty Shades and is into that, right? (/sarcasm)

Yes, this makes me crazy angry too.

Among other things. And tell anecdotal "when I was 14" stories. They will be a number of awesome people who find this story an example of what wrong and sexist in society. They will be shouted down, or over-whelmed rather, by the very vocal rape apologists who deny they are any such thing.

Of course, rape is passé over at GD lately, so it may just sink like a stone

Increasingly tolerated violence and rage against all females.

People are angry about the economy, how powerless they are, how unequal the country is.

Where to safely direct that rage? At women and girls. Lots of powers that be are pushing our people that way.

Most men watch porn. Quite a few spend hours each week watching. Porn is getting increasingly violent towards women. We all know that, although many here on DU deny that for their own reasons.

Men are being taught to see women as objects to be used and despised.

We have no allies on our side. There have been so many threads on DU that have literally sickened me.

You know where it goes from here, don't you? Look at the Congo and other troubled areas of Africa. There is our future. I pray we will all be safe but the odds are against us.

Read on Wikipedia about MS. Apparently only 40% of us make it to 60. I honestly hope I will be in the majority because I've already been through enough rape and violence and humiliation.

Stay safe, sisters.

that are okay with whats said in those threads. I'm not sure about the hours spent watching porn personally as a guy I'm not a fan of it most of it that I have seen does come off as violent. So I could see it having an affect on the thinking of young males who watch it. I do agree how society presents women as objects instead of people which teaches alot of men to disrespect them and treat them as objects and not humans.

They jump in just to derail. There are a few genuine misogynists, and those guys are scary, because they blend in well. The old-fashioned sexists (hilariously unknowing) often state they are, as in RedQueen's epic "Benign Sexism" thread. They thought the topic was about who opens doors--which completely missed the point, and turned a great chance for discussion about sexism into a pissing match.

I think a lot of men (and women) mean well, but miss the larger, long-term implications of sexism. Or use generally debunked evolutionary psychology examples to Showcase sexism as 'natural'---just something that needs to be outgrown.

It's a day to day thing with them rather than a wholesale sign of societal rot. I could make a case for sexism being the root of a lot of today's current problems, but generally that would not be well received outside of protected groups.

I remember the benign sexism threads it turned into people claiming things that were never said.Than everyone decided to make jokes out of it. Those of us that were guys that decided to call bullshit on those people as being lapdogs to a few posters and trying to ingratiate ourselves to a small minority. That part I remember well because I was still a very new member at that time.

And it's really too bad, because its possible to have reasonable discussion-- even argument-- about sexism. I can listen others viewpoints, but I dislike what amounts to snark exchanges with smilies. A little of that is ok, and can break tension.

What bothers me more than anything is the apparent absolute denial of what a serious problem sexism is. Looking at an example of rape culture; I was reading a post trying to belittle the rapes in Egypt by posting comparative numbers (numbers that were not, in any way correct) X amount of rapes among Y numbers of people. The poster disingenuously than stated 'Yes, of course that's too many rapes'--again missing the point that rapes occur at all. Toss THAT out there, and you get straw men like murder statistics-- and so on and so on and so on.

With murder you have obviously larger numbers because if for no other reason police and other law enforcement agencies take murder to be a serious crime while holding a degree of skepticism when it comes to rape. So many rapes go unreported and than of the ones that are fewer go to trials. Furthermore the rapes in Egypt were especially egregious because there was an extra layer I guess is what I would say to it. While yes rape is about control those particular rapes were about trying to put the women "back in their place" for lack of a term that I can think of right now

As a guy I know I was born with more opportunity than woman get. I was born with the ability to make more money, not have to worry about sexism, not have to worry about being raped and killed because I said no to unwanted sexual advances, There's no special program at my job making sure the males leave in pairs as a way to prevent rape.
