It must be nice to be able to "be uninterested" in whether there's a wage gap or not. Some people would consider it a privilege to be so sheltered from the realities of something like that. If you can look away from the problem and not be forcefully reminded later, then that's got to be a pretty sweet deal.

It might also explain why privileged people get so defensive when they're forcefully confronted. They're not used to real life treating them that way constantly, so it must be a shock to their system.

after reading the Tone of the OP I dismissed it. I dismiss a lot of stuff due to Tone. I will not go There with that Tone. Others will and we see what happens when they do go There and Try to explain Why They Have to Go There.

that it wasn't worth going in there to explain. Too much privilege can be blinding, and unless the person actually tries to look beyond their safe point of view, they will never get it.

Better to save energy and time for the allies that are well-meaning but in need of a helping hand.

I agree with this:

Better to save energy and time for the allies that are well-meaning but in need of a helping hand.

Pick your battles in order that we might win the war.

It's not the easiest thing to go into posts like that and fight the good fight. I am not sure I could do it (though I am sure I will try a few times. Sometimes things are too wrong not to comment on them).

Winning the war sounds like a good plan!

Another example of being dismissive is the whole "what are you going to do to fix it?" question.

Considering that the sexism behind the wage gap is something that affects us all, the question should be "what can WE do to fix it?" It's a problem we should approach as a united group, so that we can create a system that benefits us all.

Otherwise you're just asking an oppressed person what they're going to do about the power structure that refuses them basic human rights. You'd have to have some actual power in order to change it, and saying "what are YOU going to do?" is just rubbing it in. Not to mention it's a pointless question if a certain someone had done some research into feminism first...

At Sat Dec 28, 2013, 12:45 PM an alert was sent on the following post:

Turning Around The "Tone" Argument.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/125533630

REASON FOR ALERT:

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS:

This thread is in a protected group and is attacking a person who is blocked from the group. The person being attacked is the author of the linked thread in the post, which is in GD, where these comments should be instead of here. This is not what a protected group is supposed to be for, slandering someone who can't defend himself. This is pretty despicable, please put a stop to it. Thank you.

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Sat Dec 28, 2013, 12:53 PM, and the Jury voted 1-5 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: OMG
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: How is the post disruptive? Just because you don't agree with the post, don't mean it should be deleted.
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT and said: I totally agree with the alerter. This happens a lot in this group. They use it as their own little meta forum. SOP alerts are useless, since the only active host of this group is often a participant in these attack threads.
In the linked post, the poster was simply conceding points in order to focus the discussion. That's hardly a reason for this attack and call-out thread.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: I suspect another attempt by the 'mens' group to get a post hidden in HoF. Sadly for them, I'm fine with MRA talking points being called out. Leave. Ohio Joe

Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.
