The Bechdel Test plus a couple of more

http://www.upworthy.com/an-analysis-of-1500-films-resulted-in-1-disturbing-conclusion?

There have been 16 Bechdel-passing films that have grossed more than a billion dollars worldwide.

Last year, FiveThirtyEight took a look at the financial implications of films passing the Bechdel Test. Was it possible that films that failed the test simply outperformed those that passed? Was the reason for this lack of diversity economic? No. In fact, FiveThirtyEight found that dollar for dollar, Bechdel-passing films outperformed those that didn't.

Data-sharing site Silk analyzed 1,500 films released between 2010 and 2014 using the Bechdel Test criteria. Silk then incorporated data from bechdeltest.com and an Annenburg School study for reference and historical purposes.

In 2014, just 55.4% of all films passed the Bechdel Test. This is down from 2013's 67.5% and 2012's 66.4%.

The Mako Mori Test came from Tumblr user Chaila and is based off of a character from the movie "Pacific Rim." The rules of the Mako Mori Test are nearly as simple as those of the Bechdel Test.

The rules of the Sexy Lamp Test, created by Kelly Sue DeConnick, are even more simple.

Kelly Sue DeConnick (born July 15, 1970) is an American comic book writer and editor and English-language adapter of manga. She is writing the series Captain Marvel and Avengers Assemble for Marvel Comics, as well as Ghost for Dark Horse Comics and her creator owned Pretty Deadly for Image Comics.

Captain Marvel is Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot who got superpowers when she was caught in the explosion of an alien machine. She’s also the character credited with helping to bring an increasing number of female readers to comic books in recent years – diversifying the mostly male readership of a medium that’s had a history of often treating its female characters as sex objects or appendages to men.

And Kelly Sue DeConnick, who writes Captain Marvel’s comic-book adventures and whose work helped give her the prominence that led to the movie, couldn’t be more delighted that the character has drawn in so many female fans.

“The book doesn’t apologize for taking a feminine perspective,” DeConnick said. “I think women have every right to feel like they’re the protagonists in their own stories.”

DeConnick was “completely caught off guard” by Marvel’s announcement Tuesday that a Captain Marvel movie is planned for release in 2018, as part of Marvel Studios’ next slate of superhero films. ... “I feel so proud of her, like Carol is this person who lives in my head, and ‘look what you did, girl!’” said DeConnick, laughing. “It feels like a friend just got a promotion.”
