Not all that long ago . . . in 1962, the standard art history textbook

History of Art by H. W. Janson, and subsequent editions published through the mid 70's, no women artists were listed.

I watched my art history major roomies studying their texts, and it struck me then that the world must be devoid of women artists.

1962 is in the lifetime of many American women.

Berthe Morisot, a well known Impressionist painter. But yes, there were few names mentioned and none (to my memory) that questioned the lack.

Many of the most famous composers had equally, or more, talented sisters or wives that we have never heard of.

Like Hillary, people just hear it so different if it's coming out of a woman! Scary.
