Viewing Twitter without signing in?

Up until a few weeks ago, I was able to view Twitter in the "in cognito" browser mode without issue, without signing in.

Now, after seemingly some coding changes by Twitter, I can only view briefly before a "Sign in" page blocks me.

I don't post on Twitter and just lurk. Yeah, I know I can sign in, but I don't want to.

Help me defeat Twitter's attempt to control me?

viewing on my browser today. I have a VPN but Firefox works just fine, as does Edge.

I have no idea why anyone thinks making these kind of annoying changes gets you any goodwill.

I'm using the extension uBlock Origin but I don't think this works on mobile devices. You can set up rules so that these annoying Twitter popups get blocked. Unfortunately, simply clicking on images to make them appear larger doesn't work anymore. I have to open them manually.

This is the filter rule you would need to add to uBlock Origin. I'm sure if you google, you find other solutions for your Ad blocker.

10. I tried deleting the cookies

and it got better. Less of those popups when they used to appear every time. When they appeared again, I tried the register option which opens another popup you can actually close. I used the 'x' to close without registering and after that, I could continue reading on my phone.
Behavior in incognito seems to be the same.

but it's not sticky, you have to keep doing it.

I wish that site that allowed you to respond to a tweet without an account still existed. I don't want an account, but they had a bot that would post for you if you didn't have an account. Once in a blue moon I'd like to respond to a tweet. They screened them for appropriateness first, of course.

8. Same thing happened to me

Twitter has always been annoying. I use Firefox on my computer, phone & tablets. For no reason I can tell, sometimes the "link to twit" automatically shows, sometimes I have to click the link. Sometimes on my phone, sometimes on my computer. No pattern to it.

Then it started showing that sign-in thing on my computer. I followed the suggestion above and deleted the twitter cookies and now it's not asking for the sign in.

14. I switched from Chrome to Firefox, because ...

I don't like to be tracked when I'm browsing and Chrome does not allow me to
disable recording my History, while Firefox does.

Unfortunately, as a consequence, Chrome allowed me to see the tweets embedded in DU posts, while Firefox only displays the "Link to tweet"

Does anyone know how to fix this in Firefox?

15. If you look at the navigation bar at the top and on the far left, click the "shield" icon

(while you are on DU) you'll get a drop-down menu with the option to flip the switch on the line for "Enhanced Tracking Protection", to turn it off for DU. This will then put a cross-out through the shield. That may clear up the Firefox/embedded tweet thing.

You can also check the Firefox Settings under "Privacy & Security" and make sure you set " Enhanced Tracking Protection" to "Standard".

I remember awhile ago when I finally went ahead and upgraded a v78 Firefox to I think 89, and I ran into that where the default was a pretty strict security setting. Further upgrades since seemed to have kept it unchanged so far after I did some teweaks, but having uBlock Origin and/or Ghostery can also kill an embed (and other display functions) so either or both might have to be disabled for some sites, which I had to do in some cases.

I have never had (nor want) a twitter account but will also use the "web" versions of twitter to view tweets too - particularly to get the "breaking news" links that are included by the major media outlets in their tweets. It's much easier than trying to fruitlessly hunt through their websites to get to the article.

You might also need to clear cookies added specifically by twitter after doing that too - sortof like doing a "reset" of their "view" of your machine to clear their "old" stuff out (it's been awhile since I got it working but for some reason that seems to feel familiar as another thing to do if it still acts up). That can be done through the same settings under the "Cookies and Site Data" / "Manage data" option (where you can search for "twitter" and just have it clear those cookies that one time).
