I hate smilies.

Hate, hate, hate, hate, hate smilies, especially when text I enter in a post gets turned into smilies.

Is it possible for DU to make available a command that disables the smiley generator in text? Sort of a [nosmiley][/no smiley] thing?

Yeah, I know what's coming.

i.e. ")   produces a   &quot

In case anyone is interested, there's a special trick to make it display ")
I do so by sticking a [/b] inside of it which gums up whatever is translating it into a &quot

and I used the same trick in the last line above to make it display [/b] , instead of having it simply disappear like formatting codes do.

I had a Bluesky address this morning that got hijacked. That happens to some Wikipedia addresses too.

Happy March.

that DU makes invisible or renders into something else like ") into &quot by the [/b] hack. Strictly for expository purposes. I learned that one from DUer Make7.

Very handy for showing the URL for a graphic that DU automatically renders as the graphic.

e.g.

the above has the [/b] stuck in it, so it displays the URL rather than the graphic.

Without the [/b] thing, DU renders into
