Strange new glitch?

I just tried to send an SoP alert on a post in GD. When I clicked the send alert doodad it told me that I was not allowed to send the alert. It said that because my last alert went down 0-6, I can't send any alerts for 24hrs. The alerts I send today were all the stalker troll alerts. Last one I sent was hidden 6-0.

What gives?

Isn't "spamming the alert system" akin to "messing with the software?" MADem Jan 2013 #14

We've been having a minor issue with someone spamming the alert system, so Elad has just programmed a new function: anyone who sends an alert which is shot down 0-6 by a Jury (ie. the Jury votes unanimously to leave the post alone) is now prevented from sending another alert for 24 hours.

Unfortunately it seems that there was a glitch, which is why you got caught out by the new function. Elad is fixing it as we speak. Sorry for the inconvenience.

That is a start, anyway.

pipoman posted a good idea, a $5 registration fee payable by credit card or paypal would stop or at least slow down the professional trollers spamming DU with multiple accounts.

Something to think about, anyway.

So I don't think we would do something like that.

This will be very effective. One chance to alert troll then its back to the sunlight of the forums where more eyeballs can speed the troll's exit.

If the alerted poster is PPRd before the 24 hours are up, the alert block is automatically lifted.

Makes sense? I'm thinking of this situation: http://www.democraticunderground.com/1240211429

It'll be useful down the road, too.

Thank you guys and a special shout out to Elad for all his hard work!!

Is it possible to identify the spammer and dump them?
