Jesus wept.

This was in the RCC gospel today, and perhaps in other Churches (I have no idea). It concerns the story of Lazarus (John 11:35). I didn't know it until today, but this tiny verse (2 words) has been discussed and debated for years (wikipedia has an article dedicated to it). Some say it shows the true humanity of Jesus, while to others it is an insignificant observation. But the debate is what makes the Bible so fascinating to me.

But then Mary (I think) was putting him on a guilt trip, saying "if you were here, this wouldn't have happened." There are a thousand things you can read into that story.

I did not go to church today but the Episcopal Church uses the same lectionary now as the RCC.

from Wikipedia...

Lee argues instead that every person to whom Jesus talked in John 11 (his disciples, Martha, Mary, and the Jews) was blinded by their misconceptions. Thus he "groaned in his spirit" because even those who were closest to him failed to recognize that he was, as he declared in verse 26, "the resurrection and the life"

I think I will have occasion to use that!

where the students were required to memorize and recite a Bible verse each week. Everyone went for "Jesus wept" because it's the shortest one in the entire Bible. Her classmates' summary of the whole book: "Jesus wept, and Moses crept, and Peter went fishing. "
