Orange County firefighters finish yardwork for 93-year-old man who collapsed while mowing

A group of firefighters with the Orange County Fire Authority were caught on camera finishing a patient's yard work after the 93-year-old man fell while mowing his lawn and was sent to the hospital.

Lori Hallett, the homeowner's daughter, said Wednesday her father insists on staying busy.

"Really, it's important to him. He said, 'It makes me feel alive,'" Hallett said.

It's what happened after the patient, Robert Hallett, was transported to the hospital that had neighbors tearing up. One of those neighbors was Steel Morris.

"I had to get my camera out because it was just so touching to see," Morris said.

Morris caught the OCFA crew finishing what their patient started.

----------

The homeowner returned from the hospital a few hours later. His daughter said he got a chuckle out of the whole thing, and is now letting others help him out with his yard work.

Our fire personnel change our batteries on our fire alarms. I still do my own. But when I had to have them all replaced…..over 10 years old. I had the fire personnel do them. It is so nice they do this. That night I had three pizza sent over to the house. I know they appreciate that.

My friend and I were interviewing him for an article we were doing for a photograph magazine. This was about 1970. The article was a" then and now" based on some glass photograph negatives I found in a New Jersey neighbor's attic before the house was demolished.

We drove to Marblehead and asked staff at the town hall and library about who would know about these photos. Several people told us their memories about locations in the photos but all said we should visit Mr. (I no longer recall his name and the magazine is out of publication.).

Townspeople had recollections about him as well. Seems the oldest person in Marblehead was celebrated on Memorial Day, given a white cane to hold, while being driving through the town's parade in a Cadillac convertible. He wanted nothing to do with that cane because everyone who had it before him had died.

Marblehead is interesting to visit. The town hall is where the famous painting, "Spirit of 76." hangs on the wall. It is the painting of the three men with the drum, fife and flag.
