What novels should be made into films?

And I would like to nominate one other Niven/Pournelle novel: The Mote in God's Eye. That novel is one of the best science fiction novels I have ever read in my life, and I have read a lot of them.

Also, I would love to see Isaac Asimov's Foundation novels made into a movie. Not just one movie, that wouldn't do it justice, but a series of movies, like the Lisbeth Salander movies or the Lord of the Rings movies.

But, ONLY if they don't take too many liberties with the original novels. When they start taking liberties with the original, they ruin them.

2. With so many high fantasy book series being turned into streaming programs,

I would love to see Michael Moorcock's Elric books on the screen. Problem is, they would most likely so closely resemble a mashup of The Witcher and Game Of Thrones, people would cry "Copycat!", even though Elric pre-dates both of those.

6. Nightfall by Nelson Demille

8. Isaac Asimov wrote a story called Nightfall.

It was about a planet that had multiple suns, and there were almost always at least a couple of them in the sky, and when once every thousand years or so they all set and darkness fell, the people on the planet went crazy because they couldn't handle the darkness. But I'm not familiar with the novel you mention.

Incidentally, there have been a couple of attempts to make Asimov's Nightfall into a movie, but they didn't do it right. As I said in another post in this thread, when they start taking liberties with a classic original, they ruin it.

11. I've only seen one movie that was as good as the book it was adapted from

The Princess Bride. Probably because William Goldman was already a screenwriter when he wrote the book, and then later when Rob Reiner made it, he was the screenwriter.
I quit wishing to see books I love made into movies, because I got tired of them being so bad when compared to the book. I developed a real sense of dread at the idea of seeing a story I loved ruined.
Now if I has control over the final product, I could pull a hundred books off the shelves that would be awesome movies or limited run series...but nobody has offered me that opportunity yet!

For the second time. I read it the first time when I was in high school in the 1960s. Yes, I would like to see it made into a movie. But only if they don't take very many liberties with it. When Hollywood takes liberties with a great original, they ruin it. They forget what made the original great in the first place, and take out the greatness. I grok the greatness in the original, but Hollywood rarely seems to.

There are so many novels that have been made into movies that I can't count them all. I see and watch them a lot on Moviesflix you can find a few choices for you as it is very diverse

22. The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub

Always thought it would make a great movie. It’s a scary prospect though because King’s stories tend to get horribly mangled when moved to the screen.
