Need feedback from Appalachian Group

Folks, I have to admit I'm a bit discouraged at the apparent lack of interest & participation in this group. It was not my intention for Appalachia group to be my personal forum but I can't continue to justify its existence if there is so little interest. I have made every effort to generate discussion here and to post as much as possible but this cannot continue. If folks really want this discussion group I need to hear from you, whether it's to respond to threads, post threads, recommend threads, whatever. Or if you think the group needs a new host (or none) then please speak your mind. Thanks.

1. Possibly, many don't even know about the group. You might consider posting an invitation in...

...in the various state groups.

DU has one for every state, so it might work to post in those states that include Appalachia, everything from Southern New York down to Northern Alabama, and everything in between!

2. I have cross posted in a number of state groups

Including those states in the Appalachian region. It hasn't helped, but thanks for the suggestion.

3. My dear Handpuppet

I read every one of your posts, and those posts frequently cause me to wander throughout the 'Net for more information. But as you can tell from my profile (I've been here since early 2005 and I only have 2685 posts), I'm not the chattiest of posters. Please continue to post, and I will try to be more talkative!

4. Thanks, Staph

Even if you're not inclined to post yourself, recommending threads would help. We need more threads from our group to make it to the front page. My most recent 15 threads have garnered a total of 11 recommendations and 16 replies and over half of those replies were mine! That tells me (rightly or wrongly) that these topics don't interest people, not even enough for a rec. It's hard to keep up my energy and enthusiasm. Perhaps I misjudged the need for an Appalachia group.

5. I was afraid this would happen.

I don't post much anywhere on this site, or on other sites for that matter. I love your posts in this group but a lot of them are of an informational nature, similar to Omaha Strve's labor history posts. I love those posts but don't have anything to add.

I like this group and will try to think of ways that we can all chip in more and make it more of a group effort.

6. Please keep posting.

I do not post much, but will try to help to keep this group going. Your posts are always informative with great links.

Thanks for all you do.

7. I appreciate your posts

And I think you are a wonderful host. I read most of of the threads you post here but often don't feel I have anything useful to share. Sometimes I forget that it can be helpful just to kick a thread even if I don't have any great insights. I will try to join the discussion more often and be less antisocial.

8. Hang in there. I host Connecticut and it's often ultra quiet too.

I dropped in here because I was born in Charleston, WV and went to school in the mountains of Virginia. I'll be living near an ocean for the next 30 years as my career field is naval engineering. Given the future with global warming, this is a "growth" industry. But I'd like to retire back to the rolling mountains of Appalachia some day.

9. I just found you,

but I wouldn't have if you hadn't commented on my art. I'm located at the very edge of the Appalachian Mtns., where it's flat on one side and hilly to mountainous on the others. So I see no reason not to subscribe to this group.
