My son has ADHD

What kind of tips can anyone offer? Always open to any help we can get. He is doing better in school this year getting good grades but his work has been simplified. I feel they are just pushing him through. Is this something we must just accept or is there any course of action we can take?

We tried sending him to a private establishment but they were not very helpful since they blamed the public school he attends. They started from scratch costing over 15 grand for six months and we were no better off than we were before. I felt like we were being scammed. Not sure what the next step should be.

1. Hindsight - accept the simplifying version of help.

And get him on a list for vocational school as soon as it's possible. This has made a difference for both my kids (son-28, machine tech, and daughter-26 ag/animal science) in their long-term employment. There is hope after k-12. And try to develop, or at least not to kill, a love of reading, that will support his real education for the rest of his life.

2. Yes we

plan to enroll him in some sort of vocational program ASAP. It is a good thing that he is very handy and does come from long line of master carpenters like his grandfathers and great grandfathers. I use rewards to get him to read more and tonight he came to me and told me that if he sings the words while reading it makes it more enjoyable for him which made me happy. I told him it does not matter how you get there, just get there. Thank you for your reply.

3. Sounds like you're on track with a good plan.

Hindsight also says, don't forget to just enjoy your son with all his unique quirks. These years go by so fast. Best of luck and feel free to post for advice if you need it.
