Gabby Williams and the Valkyries won on Pride Night 'for the gays'
The Golden State Valkyries are only in their second year of existence as a WNBA franchise, but theyre already having a contending season in the league.
The team is currently 12-7 after Fridays 78-75 victory over the Atlanta Dream; this record is good for the fourth-best overall in the league.
That win wasnt just any typical mid-season victory, though. Star forward Gabby Williams scored 13 fourth-quarter points to close the game strong and obtain the win, and she made sure she let the camera know who she did all of that for.
For the gays! Williams screamed while pointing at the camera. It was Pride Night at the Valkyries game, and the star was clearly happy to represent a community that needs supportive voices after one of the citys other professional teams abandoned them over the course of the last two weeks.
With the San Francisco Giants Pride cap fiasco dominating headlines and making LGBTQ fans feel unwelcome in a sports community that is historically inclusive, Williams understood the moment and took advantage of the camera time to do what the WNBA has done best for years: be the most supportive league for LGBTQ athletes in America.
