What exactly is it that anyone thinks is good about this? It isn't jobs, that's for damn sure. It might be stealing land from people so they can build it. Maybe just appeasing big oil.

4. Thank you, public pressure does work if there is enough of it. It slowed down the TPP for a while

forced them to 'allow' our Congress members to get a small peek at what they were planning.

So calling isn't a waste of time imo.

6. I wish everyone felt that way

I tried to get DU to take part in Battle for the Net. They won't. 6 days till the vote and the largest democratic social site is not involved. Sigh.

9. If you have a twitter account it is a much better way to get stuff like this out to the general

public. Social media has a much further reach now than sites like this. I just tweeted this OP eg, and I'm sure it will be retweeted over and over again. No pressure, no need to try to get people to join the battle, there are literally millions of people now using Social Media to get support for issues such as Net Neutrality.

10. I actually had a pretty big following for a while

Not that many followers but was retweeted a great deal. Has some pretty heavy hitters following me. But I just took a twitter break for a while and that changed.

I will one day get back into it. Maybe I will tweet this tomorrow.

11. It's a much more effective tool than sites that are focused only on elections.

I follow people who are engaged in making a difference and I am impressed at how active they are and how much they accomplish.

I intend to spend a lot more time on Social Media, as not much is actually accomplished arguing with people who are not interested in issues, only in 'winning'.

7. Funny you bring this up. In another thread I have been in a discussion about how we

need to continue to push the President on TPP, etc. The other person tries to minimize our success with pressure by claiming that Obama would have gone that way anyway. An example I used was the pressure on Tom Wheeler to back off his original proposal to allow the industry to control the internet. Millions responded and he backed off. The New Democrats tell us to have blind FAITH.

8. Well, fortunately the 'New Democrats' are not a majority and the internet has grown

immensely since the old days when only a few sites were available to people. Everyone should tweet this OP, you have a much larger audience on twitter where I am considering joining many other former DUers as far as spending time. I only use twitter for news right now and for retweeting worthwhile information. But the reach of that site is immense once you decide to use it the way we used to use sites like this.

and haven't used it once. All I get are e-mails about celebrities, rock stars, TV promos etc. but maybe I should reconsider.

I think DU still has a purpose because there are some novel thoughts bounced around here. Thankfully everything in DU world doesn't demand links.

After our bouncing process, we can plug any holes and mold the idea so we can engage the Star Trek shields, not perfect but a buffer

The TPP, keystone and net neutrality. The vote for the net is in 6 days and no one seems to give a shit. DU won't even join. I have posted twice in the last week or so and it received little attention. I even was criticized because "wheeler has the votes" 1 vote changes and it goes the other way. We give up while the corporations keep the pressure on and we lose.
