Beyond Gnashing and Shouting: A Superdelegate Strategy that Might Work

I commented elsewhere that Bernie Sanders supporters should not worry about Superdelegates tipping they nomination away from them; Superdelegates are mostly Democratic officeholders who will need to face the voters soon enough they they wouldn't dare. Now that I see how many are also lobbyists, I'm not so sure.

Anyone represented by a Democrat in the US House has at least one Superdelegate to concentrate on. Maybe someone will attach a link to a complete list below, it this idea seems to have merit. Many of these folks are running for re-election this cycle and are subject to pressure.

The idea is to ask Superdelegates to support the Democracy for Democrats pledge, i.e. I will not use my Superdelegate vote to upset the choice to the Democratically Elected Delegates.

This would work best if asked at a live appearance with smart phone in hand, but it might still have some impact. It's a nice "Sane for Sanders" way to remind them we're watching.

I see Alan Grayson has set up an online poll to award his own Superdelegate vote. For a number of reasons, I prefer the method above. The main one is that we're not trying to set up our own way to freep the election, but are trying to make sure the Voice of the People is heard.

So far, the DNC has shown little interest in embracing the huge wave of excitement that Bernie has brought out among younger voters. If anything, they seem to resent it.

The SDs need to be taken VERY seriously. To say they would "never go against the will of the majority" seems to deny all evidence the DNC has given us up to now.

I'm urging everyone to take action. Write to all your state representatives who are Supers, and tell them they need to do the right thing. Embrace the new hopeful wave of young Democratic voters, and be part of the solution. Part of the future. Trying to cling to the ways of the old guard is a losing strategy.

And certainly sign the petition:
