Press Release
Momentum Swings to Sanders
February 24, 2016

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Telling a packed convention center crowd here on Wednesday that “we are gaining momentum,” Bernie Sanders cited huge turnouts at his rallies and three new national polls putting him ahead of Hillary Clinton in the Democratic Party presidential nomination contest.

“We started this campaign 9 1/2 months ago and we were at 3 percent. In the last week there have been three national polls that have us in the lead,” Sanders told the crowd of some 7,100 supporters who came out for the weekday afternoon rally. “We are gaining momentum every single day.”

A Reuters/Ispos tracking poll released on Wednesday put Sanders ahead by six points, 42 percent to 36 percent. It was the latest voter survey showing the race taking a turn in Sanders’ favor. Within the past week, a Fox News poll had the U.S. senator from Vermont overtaking the former secretary of state 47 percent to 44 percent. A McLaughlin & Associates poll on Feb. 17 had Sanders edging Clinton 42.6 percent to 42.5 percent.

“The reason we have so much momentum, the reason we are doing so well, is that … the American people in Kansas, in Missouri and all over this country are sick and tired of establishment politics,” Sanders told the crowd at the Kansas City Convention Center. “And they know that Washington is too busy representing the interests of wealthy campaign contributors to worry about the middle class.”

Sanders’ fast-growing national appeal also is reflected in state polls. For example, he’s up by 7 points in a Public Policy Polling survey in Massachusetts, where Sanders leads 49 percent to 42 percent. In Vermont, where Sanders will watch returns from his hometown next Tuesday, Sanders was ahead 86 percent to 10 percent.

“In state after state … the gap is narrowing or we are now forging ahead,” Sanders told the Kansas City crowd. “If we stand together we can win this nomination.”

Peace.

Kansas and Missouri loved him. It was perhaps the most incredible crowd I have ever been a part of. It was a hard 3 hours in line outside in the windy cold, everyone joined together to talk and encourage and after the long security check lines we found we were going to have to stand through the entire thing. Everyone made sure that everyone else had a chance to see, lots of hugs and friendly talk. It was a first for me in a crowd like that. It was lovely and exciting. He has reached something new I think. If not a revolution yet, the beginnings of a collaborative society that wants our country to get back to working together for the greater good of all.

Don't quite know what it was but he was great. I like how he speaks about justice. He regularly mentions Native Americans. That's big for me.

it is beginning to sound like I have no other words but he just was. I LOVED the addition of the Native American to the story. I do not know if I missed it before, I can hardly imagine I would, but it was great to hear it and the crowd loved it.

So many people for so many other people. Wow, after the last 30+ years you would never have known that that sentiment still existed.

He was asked a question about treaties with First Nations at a black forum in MN. He was out of time but he took the question seriously it seems. It shows that he really is a good listener and learns fast.

This revolution is in its infancy. We have a long, long way to go toward government of, by and for the people. We are not yet at the first baby steps. We first have to find our toes, conquer the opposable thumb, grow a body to match our brains and defy gravity by standing up!

That's this year--standing up!

However, I can't say I voted FOR him as much as I voted AGAINST McCain and Romney, respectively.

I wanted to jump on the bandwagon in '08 like so many of my friends and family did, but when I learned that Obama was pulling Summers and Geithner into his inner circle, I just couldn't get do that in good conscience.

Obama was much better than the GOP alternatives, but I've never seen him as putting the interests of people like me first.

I was hoping against hope that he'd start using the bully pulpit and get some populist stuff going. In fairness, though, look at the pic of the day titled, "Obama is the first president to..." Seriously, the racism Obama had to wade through makes me sick. I mean that asshole yelling out 'liar' during his SOTU speech the first year, and that other asshole saying he was in the same room with Obama ten feet away and couldn't stand it. What a fucking traitor that asshole is. WE elected Obama both times, and as far as I'm concerned his first name is Mr. and his last name is President and he gets ALL the respect someone holding the office of POTUS should get. But Obama hasn't gotten that and it has made me feel a very deep shame for this nation and its people.

Still, he's screwing up touting the TPP. Bad. But that's only one thing.

but The Movement will continue, and WILL grow.
It IS about us, not about Bernie.... as he continually reminds us.
We will not just go away no matter what happens.

Bernie has already forced Hillary to The Left, and if she wins, it will be OUR job to keep the pressure on, every day, ever hour.
We won't let her ignore and ridicule us like Obama did after we elected him.
