Bernie Sanders

Hello fellow Bernie Supporters.
Today is a monumental day. I'm certain you all are aware of that. There are plenty of threads abound that are intended to keep our perspectives in line. To let us know that this is only the beginning.
Truer words have never been typed and I agree with all of them! You don't need to win Super Tuesday to win the race as a whole, Bernie knows that and that's why he's executing a strategy for the swing states.
That said, the states in which Bernie has a chance of winning today are as follows: Colorado, Minnesota, Massachusetts and Oklahoma, Vermont and Virginia.
So while we keep our eyes on the prize, let us think of those of us that are out there voting for Bernie today and wish them luck!
I want to take a moment to mention a couple of things that we should be HIGHLY PROUD OF, no matter what the outcome is of this entire thing. We, along with Bernie have changed American politics forever. It's true. Let's look at what has changed.
2. We have proven, and removed the long standing stigma that "Socialism" is a taboo word. I don't care that there are people out there that are still afraid of it. Some will go to their graves afraid of a misunderstood word, but the fact is, a Democratic Socialist has won in this race. He has a following that's willing to dish out as much effort as anyone else. He has a turnout that goes above and beyond the average.
3. The Occupy Movement has been reborn. And it's not going to fade again. Bernie has sent out a message that has brought in millions of people to the Occupy movement without them even knowing it. There are thousands that were apart of the movement originally, but now, and possibly without knowing it, there are millions more telling Wall St, "YOU CAN'T HAVE IT ALL."
These 3 items are just the biggest things I can think of at the moment. We have done SO much in so little time. Should we win, imagine how much more we'll be able to do. And should we lose, know that our flame will never go out again! Win or lose... I see something big happening. Very big.
-----------------------------------------------------------
That said, here's a link for following live results:
http://www.uspresidentialelectionnews.com/2016/03/super-tuesday-2016-democratic-primary-results/
The results will start updating at 7PM EST when most polls close.
So let's all hunker down in here, have a drink and see what happens in today's contest. And again friends, this is only the beginning.

(18,133 posts)Let me add this here to demonstrate that we have a long way to go even after today - Every vote in every state matters:
There are 4,051 total pledged delegates in the primary.
Clinton has 91 pledged delegates so far.
Sander has 65 pledged delegates so far.
There are 865 pledged delegates available today.
Even if Clinton won every single one of the available pledged delegates today, which clearly is not going to happen, she would have less than 24% of all of the total pledged delegates.

I predict very low voter turnout on the Democratic side, unfortunately.

(42,510 posts)for the facts. And thank you, retrowire, for a wise and very touching post.
As I drove home from work, I heard radio propaganda saying that after today, it will be very, very difficult for Bernie to overcome Clinton's delegate lead. They said she might get 100 delegates, but I don't know if they meant that was in addition to what she had or what she might get on Super T. At any rate, I found myself wishing for access to info just like what you posted, and so, therefore, I thank you.

I am not supposed to drink, I have a bad GI system and alcohol is not very good for it, but there are times a little glass helps.
Looking forward to the results no matter how they come out. We have a candidate to be proud of who is not in any way being investigated or possibly indicted who has a clean record and one who cares about all of us and most of all, he does not lie.
If he loses we will still all be better for his campaign and I don't remember ever being that close to something good in our elections. This time there is a choice that is just not one of the usual candidates and this makes me happy.
Cheers Bernie friends! I am so glad you are all here.

(10,998 posts)I quit years ago. But our city council race is non-partisan (read: all republican). I've got the choice of either the far-right-fundamentalist or moderate-right-business ALEC candidates, the rabid-tea-bagger-fundamentalist candidate, or the moderate-union-R candidate. How can I choose?! Makes me want to guzzle a whole bottle of gran mariner!
MuseRider
(35,132 posts)that sounds like a lot of races here in Kansas. I can't even remember how many times I stood there wondering why all those running unopposed were R's. I think that is worth a drink or two!
I had to stop because of my stupid GI tract, I always enjoyed a glass of wine or two several nights a week when I wanted. I have started to ease it back in now and again and it seems as long as I don't eat like actual food I can drink wine! I am trying to figure out a way to make a wine smoothie
Good luck with the voting.

Where others might exaggerate, Bernie underestimates. Today on the radio I heard him say he would get at least two votes: He would vote for himself, and he was trying to convince Jane to vote for him.

(2,872 posts)Not in celebration-- I did a card reading on my lunch break, and I'm feeling some pretty bad mojo going around. But I'm going to clear out my ignore list, and see if I can't strike up some frank conversations with the other side on my down time. At best? I walk away with new perspective, and might be able to reconcile the internal war going on in my head.
At worst? I come away with a rekindled fire, and a necessity to tear shit down again. Anything's better than feeling the crushing nihilism that seems to be today's theme, at least.

I voted early out here in Brazoria county. It was pretty bad turnout in early voting. Less than 10% of registered voters in Texas voted early, and only 2% of those were dems.

One funny thing; the "I Voted" stickers were 1/4" in diameter - I kid you not. The "I Voted" stickers from last Tuesday's Rethug primary were the standard 1-1/2" diameter. Go figure....

(16,327 posts)We will now have a new generation of voters who will have been formed by the Occupy movement and Bernie's run! Now, either the Democrats can choose to jettison Wall Street and have a future as the Party of the People or double-down on Big Money and their transformation into the GOP and face the rise of a new Left Party, a Party of which I will be the first to join and support.
The choice is theirs and the choice starts with this election.
