(31,402 posts)Sen. Tom Carper of Delaware, who attended the meeting between Sanders and other Senate Democrats, said Sanders told colleagues he plans to play an active role in crafting the party's platform.
He mentioned he has every intention of being involved in the platform process and making sure his 2,000 delegates have the opportunity to have their voices heard, at the party's convention, Carper said.
Carper said Sanders also talked about the importance making sure the Democratic Party makes young people feel welcome. He said he received a warm welcome, a friendly welcome Tuesday, including standing ovations.
Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., who attended part of Tuesday's meeting, said Sanders told his colleagues that Democrats must do more grassroots organizing "to reach out to ordinary people who are so affected by the decisions that government makes."
Sanders also noted that "we need to vastly improve how we conduct elections in our country." Merkley said, referring to snafus with voting in New York's April 19 primary and results in California's June 7 primary that still aren't final.
Merkley also said he encouraged Sanders to endorse Clinton in the general-election race against Trump.
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada called the meeting with Sanders "terrific."
"Sen Sanders took time to talk to us about his experiences. It was really very, very moving, Reid said.

Merkley grew up close to where I live now. Folks around here know what he is like.

(3,425 posts)Is he the only candidate to do this. If he is on his way to a meeting and does not want to be late even mentioned. Do all the candidates routinely stop to answer questions, regardless of their schedules. I am not sure what point you are trying to make that would only apply to Bernie and not Hillary or the clown from the GOP.
