Bernie Sanders appears at Kenosha Town Hall - Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Bernie Sanders appears at Kenosha town hall
Mary Spicuzza , Milwaukee Journal Sentinel 2:54 p.m. CST December 12, 2016

U.S Sen Bernie Sanders is in Kenosha Monday for a televised town hall meeting.

The Democratic senator from Vermont, who ran for president but lost the nomination to Hillary Clinton, is at United Auto Workers Local 72 Hall in Kenosha.

Sanders is appearing at the event with MSNBC's Chris Hayes.

They are talking about why Wisconsin voters backed Republican president-elect Donald Trump. It was the first time Wisconsin backed a GOP presidential candidate since Ronald Reagan in 1984.

Sanders said he believes many middle class voters are "in pain" and wanted to back a candidate who would stand up to the establishment. For example, he pointed to people's frustration with trade deals that have hurt workers in the United States.

"Why do we have so much income and wealth inequality?" Sanders said.

Sanders said he believes many voters decided to back Trump because they believed he would stand up to the media and political establishment. Sanders added that he doesn't believe he will.

The interview will air on "All In With Chris Hayes" at 7 p.m. central time Monday.

know it's the same one causing a feeding frenzy in GD. It's not for the faint of heart and I have an aversion to arguing with small-mindednes. Some will never learn that engaging someone with a different opinion actually requires you to be civil, listen, and try to show/express empathy for what the other person(s) says/feels.
I always admired Bernie for his principles but when he went to Liberty University and spoke when no other Democrat would, showed me a strength of character and conviction that's been missing since RFK.

In the words of a great DUer, "I love Bernie."

Excerpt:

I believe from the bottom of my heart that it is vitally important for those of us who hold different views to be able to engage in a civil discourse.

Too often in our country -- and I think both sides bear responsibility for us -- there is too much shouting at each other. There is too much making fun of each other.

Now, in my view, and I say this as somebody whose voice is hoarse, because I have given dozens of speeches in the last few months, it is easy to go out and talk to people who agree with you. I was in Greensboro, North Carolina, just last night. All right. We had 9,000 people out. Mostly they agreed with me. Tonight, we're going to be in Manassas, and have thousands out and they agree with me.

That's not hard to do. That's what politicians by and large do.

We go out and we talk to people who agree with us.

But it is harder, but not less important, for us to try and communicate with those who do not agree with us on every issue.

And it is important to see where if possible, and I do believe it is possible, we can find common ground."

Taking the time to listen to them. Pretty amazing and great actually.

It's crazy to me too that anyone could fault this but alas, there are too many who never fail to disappoint.
