Local boy Bernie Sanders will send Brooklyn College's graduating class into the world with a commencement address at Barclays this spring.

DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN, NY — Vermont Senator and proud Brooklyn boy Bernie Sanders has been named as Brooklyn College's commencement speaker for 2017, the school announced Thursday. He'll be speaking to the college's graduating class at their Barclays Center commencement ceremony in May.

Sanders attended Brooklyn College — part of the public City University of New York (CUNY) system — for one year after he graduated from James Madison High School in the Midwood/Flatbush area of South Brooklyn, and before he headed to the University of Chicago.

"How much did it cost you to go to school here? Much cheaper than it is today?" Mark Ruffalo asked Sanders in a video of the two of them touring Brooklyn College, released by the Sanders campaign during the senator's 2016 bid for president.

"I would say that is an unda-statement," Sanders replied in his thick Brooklyn accent.

"In those days, public colleges and universities were virtually free. ... It is not a radical idea," Sanders said.

To get a taste of Sanders' commencement speaker style, here's the transcript of a speech he gave in 2011 to a graduating class in Vermont. Although in 2017, with a historic presidential campaign under his belt and a serious axe to grind with America's newly installed regime, Brooklyn College students can probably expect to Bernie to wax a little less "wacky uncle" and a little more "angry scientist."
