We looked at Romneys palaces, I think it's pertinent here but I'm not sure how much. Hill n Bill are a lot of things, entirely disconnected 1%s I don't think is one of them.

I can dig up the links again if needed - together Bill (and it's mostly Bill), Hillary, and Chelsea combined have a net worth of over $100 million.

For real. Hillary's stash alone is $21.5 million.

To many folks that is relevant.

of individual vs. systemic issues. In my view we need economic/political systems that serve all.

It's not going to be perfect, especially if it's a capitalism/socialist mix. But we saw from about 1950-80 at least that we can use taxation policies to better the lives of more people. If we are able to reign in military expenditures we can have some nice things. We proved a system like Social Security can make a huge difference (if it had been a "lock box" program it would've been even better).

So I tend to stay away from the arguments like "oh romney is worse than clinton". Well, maybe he's a jacka**, but so are a lot of people. Really not the thing to get hung up on. Right wingers will try all day to keep it on an individual level (that is how they effectively split us). The thing is to find political/economic systems that work for the public at large. I think we can do that with democracy (especially if we repeal crap like the Patriot Act), and socialist economic system (progressive socialist if that makes more people comfortable).

I forgot all about that!

That is hilarious.

So...now that they aren't broke anymore...wonder if any of the homes have a car elevator?

It's gone up to $3.97 a gallon. I haven't used heat in seven year. I live in California so what cold there is I can manage, so I only cook with it. I'm really thinking I don't need to cook. No. I can't afford to eat out much, but cooking without propane could be a creative challenge.

I've got a toaster oven and 2 slow cookers, if it can't be cooked in those it is not happening. I never really eat out anymore, only fast food around here - yuck, and usually too broke.

NW Pa here and last winter was absolutely awful, and I actually liked winter until then. Luckily house is fairly well insulated, but still had icebergs at three of my four doors. 10'Lx5'Hx5'W was the largest, melted in April, finally. I prefer a much cooler house than most here, but still had heating bills near $200 a month for 6 months natural gas.

I would not have survived without LIHEAP. Could you possibly qualify for LIHEAP?

For California residents:

In order to qualify, you must also have an annual household income (before taxes) that is below 60 percent of the State's Median Income:
Household Size* Maximum Income Level (Per Year)
1 $23,963
2 $31,336
3 $38,709
4 $46,082
5 $53,456
6 $60,829
7 $62,211
8 $63,594
*For households with more than eight people, add $1,382 per additional person.

I hope you may continue to cook and stay warm enough.

Although I am below the minimum $23,963 in income, I have too much in savings, which is dwindling away, to get help but I will be damned if I let the thieves have it. It seems like I'm living too long and actually am in robust health for my age so I need to hang on to what l have in savings. I don't know what's in the future. I will probably continue to use the propane to cook but I'm thinking of finding another way. I'm feeling like I don't want to give the ass oil companies any more money if I can help it.

I keep my heat about 58/60 all winter and run ceiling fans to move it around. I really hate feeding the beast too! Greedy bastards all.

I also had a 2 burner hot-plate for awhile, wasn't bad for smaller pans.

Better get myself to bed, have a OCT test at eye doc's in a.m. and an afternoon with an ankle doc after 8 years. Whee, hoping to not end up in another cast, last one was for almost a year. I marched in DC in Jan. 2007 with that air cast and it felt like it weighed 400#.

Have a good night!

fire up my hibachi that I haven't used for a long time. I used to do a lot of cooking that way. It's outdoors and frankly my diet is very simple. I probably would cook skewered stuff on it.
