Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumSo, I was at the laundromat doing a months worth of laundry today...
I was leaning deep into a dryer when I heard someone say "Bernie" which was about the only thing of that conversation I heard until "gonna win in New Hampshire!"
So I pulled my head out of the dryer and asked, "Did I hear you say Bernie Sanders?" with my thumb up. There were about six adults (not together) in the room ages ranging from the twenties to somewhere in middle age. An enthusiastic "Yeah!" was returned and someone whooped when they saw my thumbs up. Everyone was smiling.
That might not seem like much, but I live in a very red area of northeast Florida. It is very rare to hear any positive conversations about Democrats or liberal types in this area. And most folks aren't even talking about the 2016 candidates yet.
I can't remember any time since I've been voting that people have been smiling happily about any candidate. Good things are happening, folks!

(19,326 posts)is what a political revolution looks like. People are talking & listening.
Hell clearly the M$M doesn't need to talk about Bernie, cuz everyone
already IS talking about him, and listening, and liking what they hear & see.
GO BERNIE!

(58,785 posts)albeit with great fear. I am afraid another Republican presidency and House would be gravely damaging to America in these very hazardous and pivotal times. This without even considering a Supreme Court with 3 very potential vacancies.
Love the term "laundromat revolution," btw -- spot on and very real. As long as Democrats prevail in the White House and in general in 2016, its power will enable them to move left from centrist positions they've been forced to occupy. If right-wing ideologies, or whatever they are, prevail, all bets off and Katie bar the door...

(11,012 posts)There are people in this area (lots of them) who wouldn't vote for Hillary even if doing so would save them from torture or their lives. Bernie might be a long shot with them, but given the Republican candidates, he has a better chance at those votes than Hillary does.

(15,673 posts)totals, then Jesus Christ himself could not defeat the Republican. Even the ones down here in Arkansas that are solidly R's see that they have been sold a bill of goods. They see it in the legislature and in Washington. Not hard to miss especially when you ask them "Hey who did you vote for last time" and you know who they voted for and they say "Oh, I never got around to it."
Things are changing.

(45,251 posts)Match up polls are beginning to show that her ability to trounce Republicans is not necessarily as has been being posted at DU since well before she even announced.
BTW, this is the Bernie Sanders Group, for people who hope he wins the primary, not for posters who fear he might win it. As a relatively infrequent poster, you may be unaware of that. This language appears at the beginning of each group.
This is a group, not a forum. Groups often serve as safe havens for members who share similar interests and viewpoints. Individuals who post messages contrary to a particular group's stated purpose can be excluded from posting in that group. For detailed information about this group and its purpose, click here.
Your post seems far better suited for the Hillary Group. I will leave it to the hosts to see if they want to request that you self delete or not. Nothing personal.
ETA: I just saw that Group Host smokey nj has already posted to you, so I will butt out. My apologies.

just kidding.
I've always read the Bulletin Boards in Laundromats.
People can be amazingly creative and funny when they have some time on their hands (like waiting for your clothes to dry).
Laundromats could be one of the hot beds for revolution.
They are a community nexus of sorts.

(5,364 posts)Hearing real issues truly resonate with regular people. From the ground up, not from the talking heads down.
It's so true about the MSM/corporate media having their heads up their asses, studiously so. They're so irrelevant that it's easy and fun to spot someone who still gets their news/views from them. Their comments all sound so canned. They're tools, and they don't even realize it, yet swear they're in the know.

(4,940 posts)my ears are "tuned in" to Bernie's name, I guess. Red state, indeed - we gave you Sarah, after all. Now, though, I've heard his name spoken with hope and anticipation! Overheard in grocery store, "As a military wife, and coming from Ohio, you'd think I'd defend Ms. Davis. Nope. I'm a Bernie voter"...........
I wanted to do the happy dance right there!

(18,791 posts)I had two different employees mention my Bernie hat and Bernie! Both young...
The cashier said that he had been for HRC but was very intrigued by Bernie...I urged him to look at the website...he said he had BUT didn't feel like there was a lot of info there (I have started to feel somewhat the same...you really have to dig for some stuff or get an email to be notified of pages that you wouldn't know existed, unless you were told...they must add to the site.) I also told him of the FB page and Bernie2016.tv with their FB plus YouTube pages.
It was interesting...wish my new shirts would get here!

(18,791 posts)Well, yes there is...if you hunt a little...and by that I mean you have to click the various links to find his stance, etc.
The site's homepage is clean, simple and neat...but doesn't have a lot of updates or very recent items, other than the article at the bottom. I really do hate sites that are all junked up but wish that they would give it a, well, maybe something at the top (a banner of some kind that changes). I also wish that they would actually list his events on the Events screen...they did and then they stopped. If you want to look for events, meetings, rallies you have to plug in the ZIP to find them...I would like to see his official events listed. Now if I want to see a list...I can go look at his Facebook page to see them prominently displayed.
Speaking of other sites...I looked at this other ones last evening...Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, tumbler...some of those really need updating.
No matter...I did tell the cashier to click through the links to find out what Bernie has to say.

(39,215 posts)And everyone who is not ignoring it knows it. When it comes to these common sense issues that everyone is facing almost all of us I think red or blue is not going to be such a big issue.
His issues resonate in all parts of the USA because we have all suffered from the problems he is talking about. It crosses all lines.
Now what we have to do is get the leadership of the Democratic Party to understand that this campaign is the continuation of the change that President Obama promised us and was only able to deliver in part due to the do nothing Rs.
Our other candidates are looking back - Bernie is continuing to move ahead.

(254 posts)in a very red area of N.E. FLA, wonder if we could be neighbors?
I have been hearing a lot of 'Bernie' talk at some of the after-work watering holes, from more & more folks (places where you would usually be more likely to hear some regurgitated crap off of Fox News).
It's gotten to where a lot of the 'red' folks are starting to pretty much shut up, because when asked straight out if THEY want to give up THEIR social security, or Medicare, or how they feel about THEIR boss buying a new Porsche while they are stuck scratching in the dirt for pennies, their replies betray how they really feel, not what the right-wing machine tells them to.
