Sen. Sanders to cite Iraq War to hit opponents over Iran deal
Bernie Sanders will take to the floor of the Senate on Wednesday to outline his support of the Obama administration's Iran nuclear deal, likening its critics to those who backed the Iraq War in 2002.
In doing so, Sanders will draw a sharp contrast with Hillary Clinton, who earlier Wednesday made her own case for supporting the deal.
"Those who have made every effort to thwart the diplomatic process and have spoken out against the Iran agreement, including many in this chamber, are the same people who spoke out forcefully on the need to go to war with Iraq," Sanders will say, according to prepared remarked provided by his Senate office.
Sanders will add, "I voted against the war in Iraq. Sadly, much of what I feared in fact did happen. I do not want to see it happen again."
