(496 posts)From the debate Tarrant did seem moderate on some issues, but neither that nor the 'bernie's nice but he can't get things done' argument helped him at all. Trying to sound 'reasonable' and 'adult' doesn't seem effective against Bernie, which does have relevance for the current campaign since one would think that's the main tack other Dems, at least, will take. Reps will just howl at the moon and scratch themselves, so that's a different ballgame.

(4,452 posts)Some of the most irritating things for me to deal with is the whole "he can't get things done" meme or that he can't possibly win for whatever reason.
Well reality has changed for the political landscape and the "elite" haven't realized it yet.
One of the first cuts I heard this morning was about his appearance with Chris Hayes last night. It was all based on Obama's biggest or first political mistake.
Do you remember the formation of Obama For America? Soon to be transitioned to "Organize For Action"? Well I don't know if it was Obama or party leadership, but it seems like either way the on the ground people weren't absorbed and utilized by the party to create the change that was sold in the election. I don't know anyone who worked to win that election who advanced in the party structure. To me it was like after the election it was all "We like your votes and we like your money but just leave the rest to us".
Remember now Mayor 1% Emanuel calling the progressives of the party "fucking retarded"?
That's no way to build a movement that can change the politics of today unless you are on the top and don't give a fuck about anything but maintaining or improving your standing in the current power structure.
Sanders for all the years I've been listening to him is not fighting to win an election. He is fighting to change the system so that policy precedes politics.
Any sentient being should be able to recognize when they are being used but we are all victims of manipulation that is well engineered and as a species we aren't as smart as we think we are.
Remember that Sanders is calling for a political revolution? It isn't about that one person in that one office. It's about putting in the effort to be informed and involved and make it contagious to everyone you can talk to.
Elections are only the beginning of the hard work, just remember that!

(60 posts)That was well worth watching. Funny to see it so many years later. That other guy set off so many creepy vibes. Add to that his political craziness (repeating the same thing over and over does not make it true!), I am so glad Vermonters weren't bought off. Could you imagine the mess this guy would've made?
One thing that really bothers me with these filthy rich mega-millionaires is them calling themselves small businessmen! They are not even close! The independent bookstore, dry cleaners, hair cutting place down the street are small businesses! Not your mega corporation! Sorry, it's a pet peeve.
