(10,337 posts)I assume, maybe incorrectly, that the term "Spanish fly" has a connotation among people of a certain age that you might not want to associate with Bernie. Just a thought. As a person of that "certain age", I thought a response was in order.

(22,271 posts)You posted another in Spanish that hadn't been proofed and had LOTS of grammatical errors. Has this one been proofed by a Spanish speakers?

(22,271 posts)It's generally a good idea to make sure something is grammatically sound before you post it for mass consumption.

(2 posts)Hi there, I'm the creator of this flyer.
I'm a native Spanish speaker for over 20 years, and just to be sure I ran it by three other native speakers to refine the language.
Just wondering where you saw that this flyer was "discredited?" If so, I'd be genuinely curious to hear which specific passage they take issue with.
Thanks!

(22,271 posts)and I also had several Spanish-speakers read it and they all agreed. As to where I read it. Are you kidding? Do you know how many sources I read every day? Easily hundreds. I vaguely remember the graphic being posted somewhere and right after that several people responded that there were grammatical errors. I printed it out, brought it to one of our Bernie events, asked one of the co-chairs of our group who is a native Mexican to read it and tell me what he thought. HE'S the FIRST one to say, "No, we can't use this." I had 3 or 4 other people at our table, all native Spanish speakers, tell me the same thing. Now, I'd love to get a Spanish speaker RIGHT FUCKING NOW!11!!! on DU but it's 9:49 PST and it would be a little inconvenient. Know what I mean?
Oh, and the next time you want to use a sock puppet? Make the screen name a little more convincing.

(18,791 posts)Are you talking about the flyer in this OP or...the previous flyer, which was in another post and different.
I also saw the other post on reddit as well...the person at the time was indeed asking for it to be proofed for errors...I'm not sure that I see anything wrong with that.
People seem to really want flyers in different languages but there's just not much out there...thought these folks were simply trying to help out.

(22,271 posts)I made a copy, took it to our tabling event last Friday and the errors were noticed at once by one of the co-chairs, who was born and raised in Mexico, as well as 3 of our Spanish-speaking volunteers -- all from Mexico. They ALL said there are grammatical errors. I'm not sure how effective one can be with the Spanish-speaking community when the literature in their language is wrong. The new flier was posted by the same person as the first one. Sorry, but with past history, I thought it was important to ask about errors.
Yes, people DO want fliers in different languages. We're working on Hmong right now. But it's important that the translations are correct otherwise the gringas look like idiots. The BernieSanders.com website has got one flier in Spanish and the New Mexico for Bernie Sanders group has others -- all of those have been proofed for errors and are in wide circulation.
It seems the OP is butt hurt and had to call in the cavalry. I'm getting tired of him/her spamming this group anyway so EVERYONE ELESE'S threads get pushed down and off the page so I just solved the problem.
Now, if everyone is finished, I have 50+ names to add to my volunteer list.

(2 posts)I don't know what flyer you're talking about, but the one posted in this thread is clearly linked to above:
https://www.reddit.com/r/SandersForPresident/comments/3lqa0k/spanish_flyer_specifically_targeted_to_latino/
You couldn't possibly have tabled with it last Friday, because as you can see from the reddit link, I posted this flyer 19 hours ago, under the same username I have here.
Also, no one "called me here"--I was looking at the imgur stats and saw this site had quite a few referrals, so I came here to see the response
Again, if you (or your Spanish-speaking friends) have any *specific* criticisms of the Spanish syntax/grammar on this flyer, I would be very interested to hear them
