What a great event we attended Sunday!

My sister in law and I attended a BBQ For Bernie in the next town over from us yesterday. It was a great event!

This event was to discuss how we can get the word out. I'm not sure how many people came but I would say around 20 -25. The event was given by Patrick, a gentleman who used to work for Lehman Bros. He had a story that would knock your socks off! It was this story that proved to him how bad things really are in our current oligarchy. I don't know that I can share this story so I won't. Trust me, it was pretty bad.

I had informed Joy Newhart, the woman that hosted the last event I attended, about this event and asked her to come. She helped a great deal with the discussion and gave a shortened version of her event to teach organizers. You can read a little more about her here Training Event

The crowd, again, ranged in age from people in their 70s to people in their early 20s. One was still a college student and two, Gretchen and Mark, just graduated from Grad school. EVERYONE was so nice and SO concerned about our country. One attendee had been an elected official around here and currently works for (I believe) a congressman. Unfortunately, I'm not that familiar with local politics yet so I just don't remember the specifics. He, Rocky, used to work for, and was on the national board of, Young Democrats. That's what SDS turned into He talked about remembering the cold war, unlike the millennials, like he was old. He is 37. Oh! To be that old again!

This event was filled with hippies. Original hippies We met Frank who has worked with moveon.org for years. He used to work at the National level but now is working at the local level. What a nice, informative, smart guy. It was funny when Joy came in, looked over and said, "OMG that's Frank!" They have worked together before but hadn't seen each other in months.

We discussed my ambitious plan and looks like we might be able to pull it off. Joy actually used to plan rock concerts, which is part of my ambitious plan. What a godsend Joy is! Great connection to have.

We started the plans for a couple flyering events in the area. Gretchen and Mark live near the next Bart station from ours. So, we're going to help each other out at the two Bart stations in the next couple of weeks.

I wish, just like before, I could take the time to write about each person that was there. The conversation was absolutely wonderful, ideas flying around, no discourse, everyone just wanting to share, to learn, to help. It was a great event.

This movement is huge. It's exciting. Hell, it's exhilarating! This is not just about Bernie, it's about us. It's about our country. It's about survival. And it's awesome!!!

Some pics from the event:

And may I add, what great food! Especially the hamburgers!!

Saturday, our group did flyering at Faneuil Hall in Boston. It's a historic place that was left to the City of Boston for politics and food. There are some clothing shops, etc. as well. In all, it attracts a good number of poeple, lots of visitors from the burbs and lots of tourists from out of state pass through.

The weather was great. There may not be much more great weather in Boston for outdoor flyering events, depending on how fast it gets cold this year. A good number of people were interested in Bernie and asked questions. Some just wanted to be on their way, which is to be expected. Unfortunately, I did not last very long because I did not feel well.

That sounds like a really cool place. I'm going to have to check it out, if I can ever get to Boston.

I'm sorry you weren't feeling well. Good for you for going and sticking it out as long as you did!

Thanks for the information and for you work!!!

I wonder what the average temperature is for those.

The windy city isn't called that because of wind. It's all the hot air blowing from politicians

As far as climate, I read once on a catalog, "There's no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes." I began making sure I had the right clothes/gear for any kind of weather, regardless of where I was going.

In Boston, that's a bit of a challenge because we run quite a gamut, which is where layers come in. Sometimes, I've literally doubled down in everything: socks, trousers, sweaters, gloves, hat under a hood. And all that over silk long johns (from that same catalogue at a great price, LOL). That's only when we get windchills of 40 below and I need to walk.)

In any event, the weather has indeed been much less of an issue for me since then.

First-hand accounts. Great idea about the BART station, too! Anywhere where people are gathering, coming or going is a good place to flier for Bernie.

We're trying to get fliers in Cantonese and a couple other languages. Might have to do it before that but we've asked about it to the campaign. Big Asian-American and Mexican-American population here.

translated into Hmong since we have such a large Hmong population here. We've got several Spanish-language fliers that we've either made up or found on the web, most of them from the New Mexico for Bernie Sanders group. They've been VERY helpful.

Well, if I'm in the Bay Area during the campaign season, I'll definitely email you and we can do some campaigning together. And if you're ever in the Valley you know you have an open invitation.

I just posted a new Event on the www.berniesanders.com website for a Bernie Bash Pot Luck and Get Together. We're doing it in one of the city parks so the venue is free (we're a poor lot we are). Among other things is we're making signs for Bernie and then will plan on when/where to put them to good use. Again, another cheap way to campaign.

I love activists!!
