with Clinton now coming out against TPP do you feel like in debate Bernie has to challenge her postion on things like TPP?
I have feeling the Clinton stragedy may be going into first debate to try to paint her as the true progressive who can win and who
has been tested against the Republicans. The MSM will happily help sell that.

(7,820 posts)It immunizes her from attacks from the left, and leaves Biden in a very tough position as the only Democrat running who supports it if he does get in. Now, we can all question how strong her opposition really is, but give her props for judging the prevailing winds. It was a smart move.

(7,820 posts)And came as Biden appears to be weighing a run. It's a calculated move, but also the right thing to do.

(592 posts)the wind must be blowing against TPP....perhaps we have reached a critical mass of objection and this thing can be stopped.
I will give her credit for making the right decision here, but my vote is going to the guy I never doubted.

New Stuff Alert:
Already seeing post responses about how as SOS, she actually worked on and in favor of TPP...so now..political opportunism or a real change of heart?
So Bernie can draw this contrast about how he was for causes like gay marriage 32 years ago vs her 'evolving' time and time again on issues like this one. He can even say nice things about her decision to take this position now, BUT....
IMHO this is going to backfire on her because THIS is exactly the thing that Progressive Democrats hate about her, her waiting to "come out" on issues only once a critical mass has been reached. That is not the sign of a leader, it's the sign of a follower. I want a LEADER for President.
I predict this will only serve to drive her polling numbers down further mostly because I don't think many people actually buy or trust her current position.

(45,251 posts)For example, Hillary led in the founding of the DLC and in preaching the DLC message in Europe, to officials like Tony Blair.
That was the wrong direction. Rightward usually is.

(10,345 posts)It could be used as Bernie's ace in the hole.
They'll go after him about his initial opposition to the Brady Bill. "Why didn't you sign it? Huh?!"
And he'll reply to Hillary, "Why did you help write the TPP if you oppose it so much?"

(52 posts)allowed her to change again in the general. 'At this time'...'as it is now' etc. His statement today that it would have been nice if she come out on this earlier (before fast track passed) is probably as fr as he will go. He will let the people make up their minds. All his fans will agree she is weak on this. He will stay focused, will not likely attack her.

(41,600 posts)The ONLY reason she said she's against the TPP is because word leaked it's going to pass. That's her cover. Don't think for one minute she'll repeal it/overturn it EVER, should she be able to pull off a win in the primaries - which is highly unlikely.
She's not against the TPP - SHE HELPED WRITE IT.
Bernie has to hit her with:
Fracking
Big Banks and all her friends who run them
Wall St. Thieves - her friends
Her IWR vote
Her Endless Warmongering
Her horrid University Plan
There's no way she could possibly come off as Progressive, especially since she's already admitted she's"guilty" of being a "moderate." She's not moderate either. She's DLC Right of Center. Not even close to being Progressive.
And you're correct. Our corrupt CORPORATE owned MSM will do everything they possibly can to help Hillary look good.
Be prepared, if Bernie is assertive in getting a point across, the Weathervane group will whine about Bernie bullying the girl!
With all that said, Bernie is an excellent debater. He doesn't suffer fools gladly. If given half a chance by the corrupt MSM, he'll be GREAT.

Just like Obama going after bankers, closing gitmo, and ending the war in '08.
It is just the way, third way.

(12,769 posts)He might throw in how long he has supported it but he won't rake her over the coals for it. But there are plenty of other issues that Bernie is still far ahead of on polls that Hillary hasn't come out with a position on. Bernie knows where he stands and has plenty of experience defending his positions since he has held them for a long time.
