(19,326 posts)But it's worth noting that Bernie has dramatically de-stigmatized the word. Not completely,
but still .. when pollsters ask questions like "could you ever imagine voting for a Socialist?"
something like 1/2 of the Democrats were like "meh" no big deal. And this is when they
totally leave out the word "Democratic" in front of it.

Brrrrrrr.....scary!

(4,389 posts)Savage capitalism is horrifying, it is very close to fascism. Way too close for comfort.

(2,169 posts)It's not that encouraging for a general election. I don't agree he has dramatically de-stigmatized the word. Maybe he has opened the door to a needed discussion and understanding, but I don't think that conversation will reach the point it would need to in the next 12 months, not after a couple centuries and many generations of stigmatizing socialism and exalting capitalism. Most people aren't even paying that much attention, except the already converted and the never will be converted. Everyone else doesn't even engage for another 6 months or more.

(19,326 posts)Hell, he gets like 21-25% of GOP votes in his own state, and more than a few Republicans are totally
disgusted with their 2016 primary candidates, and are changing their registration to Dem to vote in
the primary for Bernie..
They are drawn to how he exhudes integrity, directness, honesty, and so forth. They are mostly
the ones who remember how Ike, even Reagan, were somewhat sensible in their support for the
middle class, compared to today's nut-jobs.

(2,169 posts)than socialism. I challenged the allure and election potential of ONE issue, socialism. And I don't think Bernie is campaigning or believes that this ONE issue will win him the nomination or the general election. If that is so offensive to you then alert on me if you are incapable of just having a conversation.
"Democratic" is a lot of extra keystrokes!
