Senior Sanders Campaign Advisor Tad Devine confirmed for the first time that Sen. Bernie Sanders is a Democrat on MSNBCs Hardball.
Transcript via MSNBCs Hardball:
CM: If he [Bernie Sanders] gets the nomination of the Democratic Party, will he become a Democrat?
Devine: He is. Hes running as a Democrat. In this campaign he decided to run for the Democratic Party nomination. Hes running as a Democrat.
CM: He is a Democrat? Is he a member of the Democratic Party?
Devine: He cant technically be a member of the party because theres no registration in Vermont.
CM: Is he a Democrat?
Devine: Yes, hes running as a Democrat.
CM: I thought he was a Socialist. Which is it?
Devine: Well, his philosophy is Democratic Socialist.
CM: Oh, I thought that his title was Socialist?
Devine: No.
If Sanders could register as a Democrat, he would, but that isnt how things work in Vermont. Sen. Sanders has had a long and close relationship with the Democratic Party. Sanders is a friend of both President Obama and Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid. Sanders has such a good relationship with the Democratic Party that he was given an important promotion to Ranking Member on the Senate Budget Committee.
The fact is that Senator Sanders is not as far out of the mainstream of the Democratic Party as the media and many of his opponents like to suggest that he is.
Note: I was told that in several states he will have to go there and register in that state as a Democratic Member.

(34,122 posts)OMG can I have that? I would credit you. I LOVE IT!
It is a sad day and there will be many more as well as many more happy days. I hope the balance works in our favor and I think it will but then you never know, there are months and months of dirty tricks in waiting. The saddest part about that is that there is never any rest from them. It only gets worse once in office. I am tired of it all. There is no sense in it but to wear people down and that is no way to run an election or a country or to deal with the world.
I never thought I would say this but I am so very glad to be getting on in years. I could not deal with thinking ahead like this if I were 20.

(11,945 posts)But I'm glad you like it.
I completely agree with you about the uncertainty, dirty tricks, and unpleasantness. And I sincerely believe that a Bernie Sanders victory would the best thing that could happen to our country.
Here is the web page (it has several styles, but I still would do it differently): http://www.emofaces.com/smilies/clarinet-smile
There may be better ones out there, if you have time to look for them. I did a search on "clarinet smilie". Not all the results had them, though. To "get" it, simply right click on the smilie you like and then, from the drop down menu, select "Copy Image Location," then paste (ctrl V) what you copied into your comment, or whatever. You will see the location address in your typed text (it will end in gif), but when you preview, you should see the image, and that is what will show in your comment. Have fun!

(3,041 posts)Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont is referred to as a Democrat. How is this possible if you can't register as a Democrat in Vermont? Can Bernie just start referring to himself as a Democrat, and that does it?
I googled "Vermont Senators" and the first result I got was pictures of them both, captioned "Patrick Leahy (D)" and "Bernie Sanders (D)".

(45,251 posts)In my post on that thread is a link to a post of mine that explains Vermont voter registration law. Just voting in a Democratic primaryor saying you are a Democrat does it. By the same token, if you vote in a Democratic primary, then say you are indie, you're indie under Vermont law.
